APPLICATION TYPES
Video Streaming App, Movie Streaming Service
Google TV is another term for Google Play Movies & TV or Google Play Movies in some areas, an online video on demand service run by Google. It allows its users to rent or buy movies and TV shows, if available. Initially, the service launched in May 2011 as Google Movies but later it was changed to Google Play Movies & TV when it was included in the Google Play digital distribution service in 2012.
Google stated that most content was in high definition, and it would offer a 4K Ultra HD video option on select titles starting from December 2016. There are several ways content can be viewed: it may be streamed on various streaming devices, through the website of Google Play, with an extension to the web browser Google Chrome, or through the mobile application available on Android and iOS. Offline download is allowed by the mobile application as well as on devices.
The Google Play Movies & TV app on Android was rebranded to Google TV in the United States in September 2020, adding aggregation of content across streaming services. The rebranding coincided with the introduction of an identically named user interface for the Android TV operating system on the Chromecast with Google TV media streamer. The Google TV user interface is deeply integrated with the Google TV video service.
