Airtel Introduces Free International Roaming With New Postpaid Plans Starting at Rs 499
Airtel has launched new postpaid plans starting at Rs 499 with one free international roaming trip every year. The complimentary five-day pack includes 5GB data, 60 minutes of calls and 25 outgoing SMS, with family plan members also getting their own annual roaming benefit.

One of the telecommunications companies of India, Airtel, has introduced one international roaming benefit for its postpaid customers in India. As per the newly introduced benefit by the company, there will be one free international roaming trip every year for the subscribers of the company with its latest postpaid offers.
From October 8, 2026, the postpaid customers of Airtel subscribing to the new postpaid offers will get one international roaming trip every year for free of cost along with 5GB of mobile data, 60 minutes of talk time, and 25 SMS outgoing per day and the validity of the benefits will continue for five days.
One of the interesting things about this offer by the company is that the customers will have the freedom to activate the roaming pack whenever they want. The five-day validity of the roaming pack need not be activated on a particular date but according to the need of customers.
What Does Airtel’s Free International Roaming Pack Include?
Under Airtel’s latest postpaid offering, eligible customers get 5GB of data roaming, 60 minutes of voice calls, and 25 outgoing SMS for five days. This is one time per year for each of the eligible SIM cards and applies to all six new postpaid offerings from Airtel.
Roaming pack can now be activated by the customer when required, rather than automatically. Thus, customers can hold on to the roaming benefit and use it whenever convenient, during the course of the year.
Furthermore, Airtel is providing this roaming benefit to individual subscribers belonging to postpaid family plans. For instance, if a family has taken up an Airtel postpaid family plan with four SIMs, each will get one complimentary international roaming trip per year.
Unfortunately, Airtel has not clarified which countries are included under the roaming benefit in their official press release. In case any customer is planning an overseas trip, they are advised to consult the Airtel app first before their trip.

Airtel is offering the complimentary international roaming benefit across six new postpaid plans priced between Rs 499 and Rs 1,799 per month. All of the plans include unlimited data and calling along with spam and fraud protection, Xstream Play Premium and Google One.
As customers move to higher-priced plans, Airtel adds additional entertainment and cloud-service subscriptions. Family plans also include multiple SIMs, with each eligible SIM receiving its own annual free international roaming trip.

The new plans also come with Airtel’s Fast Lane technology for 5G users and access to the Airtel Postpaid Advantage Club. The latter offers additional lifestyle and entertainment benefits, including access to comedy shows, movie premieres and concerts.
Airtel has not indicated whether these new plans represent a price revision compared with its previous postpaid lineup.
Amit Tripathi, Airtel’s Director of Market Operations, said the company wants to provide customers with more reasons to choose Airtel Postpaid, with the new roaming benefit forming part of that broader offering.
How to Get Airtel’s New Postpaid Plans
The new Airtel postpaid plans are set to go live from October 8, 2026. Airtel existing customers can get their hands on the new Airtel plans via the Airtel app or by heading to the nearest Airtel store.
Customers who are presently with Airtel prepaid service can upgrade to the new plans. Customers who are with other telecom networks can migrate to Airtel postpaid by making a request either via the Airtel app or through an Airtel store.
Customers subscribing to any of the above-mentioned plans can enjoy free roaming annually while traveling overseas, subject to the destination.
Airtel vs Vi Free International Roaming
It should be noted that Airtel’s announcement is made right after Vi has offered its own free international roaming feature. Although both telecom companies target travelers abroad, their features are a bit different.
In particular, while Vi gives users up to three international roaming trips per year, it does not limit this benefit only to postpaid customers because Vi has launched its free international roaming feature for some annual prepaid plans that cost from Rs 2,997 to Rs 4,999, as well as enterprise plans.
As for Airtel, it offers customers just one free international roaming trip per year and currently limits this benefit to new postpaid plans. What sets Airtel apart from the competition is the fact that it has clearly listed what benefits are included in the offer: 5GB of data, 60 minutes of talk time, 25 SMS messages out and five days validity.
However, Vi has not been consistent with the amount of detail provided in its roaming offers across all its eligible plans, as the benefit varies according to the plan and telecom circle. Thus, the "up to three trips" is the maximum benefit and not necessarily three trips for all eligible customers.
The pricing for the entry-level plan is also similar. While Airtel's new postpaid plan charges Rs 499 per month, Vi's eligible postpaid plans charge Rs 501 per month.
For customers who make several trips to other countries every year, Vi's offer gives them more opportunities to enjoy free trips. On the other hand, for customers who make one international trip per year, the five-day roaming package offered by Airtel is a clear benefit in terms of data, calling, and SMS services.
Airtel Targets Frequent Travellers With New Postpaid Benefits
Airtel’s new international roaming feature provides additional value to its postpaid suite of offerings, as telecom companies in India become competitive beyond data and calls services. By offering one free trip of international roaming in its new suite of plans, Airtel is trying to make its postpaid connectivity more convenient for international travelers.
The key advantage of the service is the availability to choose whether one wants to use the free five days pack whenever needed. Nevertheless, travelers should remember about checking the availability of the service in the respective destination country as Airtel has not announced the full list of countries in the package.
The decision to opt for a new postpaid connection will depend on frequency of traveling overseas, number of people in one's family, and what kind of subscriptions will be added to the international roaming benefit.
