ASUS has officially confirmed that the ROG Xbox Ally X20 will be available as a standalone handheld, not just in a bundle. Featuring a larger OLED display, upgraded controls, and premium design improvements, the gaming handheld is expected to launch in 2026 with a price likely exceeding $1,000.

It would seem that ASUS is planning to introduce a much bigger release of ROG Xbox Ally X20 than what most people were expecting. Initially, when the portable console was announced at the start of June, it was included in a bundle with ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses. However, now a new statement by ASUS claims that the premium portable will be released on its own too, which should please gamers that are more concerned about the device itself rather than additional equipment.
The news was reported by The Verge after contacting ASUS regarding the release plans. According to a representative of ASUS, the company is working out the exact schedule of the standalone version of the new device. Although there is still no official announcement regarding the release date, this information already shows that ASUS is going to launch a wider release of ROG Xbox Ally X20, which means that the handheld console will no longer be available only in a bundle.
It is particularly intriguing about the ROG Xbox Ally X20 since this is not a mere refresh. The major addition here is a bigger OLED screen, however, ASUS has added some other features and components to enhance the user experience as well. It includes new TMR joysticks, an updated transforming D-Pad, refreshed face buttons, and rubberized grips, which all make the X20 look like a refined version of the currently available Ally concept.
This premium approach can mean quite an increase in terms of prices. Currently, the ROG Xbox Ally X retails at £799.99 / $999.99 and it is safe to assume that the ROG Xbox Ally X20 might cost more than $1,000 in the US and even exceed £1,000 in the UK. While we do not have confirmation on the pricing yet, it does seem that ASUS is not going to offer any discounts.
For now, everyone is waiting for ASUS to disclose information about the final release date and pricing of this gadget. Taking into account the fact that this gadget has already been tested by some people, the release in 2026 seems very probable. However, if ASUS manages to provide such a level of performance and display as promised for ROG Xbox Ally X20, then it can become one of the most discussed gaming handhelds of next year.
ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20 is set to become not just another gaming handheld but something bigger. This gaming gadget features an OLED screen, improved controls, and a better design which is why it can attract a lot of attention from gamers. The only remaining questions concerning it are price and release date.
