ChatGPT Could Soon Let You Create Custom Stickers for WhatsApp Directly

ChatGPT may soon get a dedicated sticker creation feature that lets users generate personalised stickers and add them directly to WhatsApp. The feature has reportedly been spotted in the latest ChatGPT Android app.

ChatGPT stickers

WhatsApp stickers have become far more than just an extra way to react to a message. For many users, a perfectly timed sticker can say more than an entire sentence, and sometimes an entire conversation can happen through stickers alone. Now, OpenAI appears to be working on a feature that could make creating and using personalised WhatsApp stickers even easier by bringing the process directly into ChatGPT.

According to a report by Android Authority, the latest ChatGPT Android app, version 1.2026.216, contains several strings that point towards a new ChatGPT Stickers feature. The feature could allow users to create customised stickers using ChatGPT and then add those stickers directly to supported chat applications, with WhatsApp specifically mentioned in the app's code.

The discovery suggests that OpenAI could be exploring a more direct way of turning AI-generated creations into usable messaging stickers. Instead of creating an image with ChatGPT, downloading it and then manually converting or importing it into WhatsApp, users may eventually be able to create a sticker and send it to WhatsApp with just a few taps.

ChatGPT Could Add a Direct ‘Add to WhatsApp’ Option

However, the strings found within the Android app version of ChatGPT allegedly include such options as “Add to chat apps”, “Add to WhatsApp”, and “Download stickers”. This clearly demonstrates that the company is attempting to develop a special sticker feature instead of merely creating images for users.

In case the feature becomes accessible to the general public in the future, the ChatGPT might create a sticker based on the request of the user and also offer them the option to add it to their WhatsApp account. Thus, users would have an opportunity to create personalized reactions, memes, character stickers, customized greetings, and so forth.

At least for now, it is WhatsApp which is the only messaging application mentioned in the strings found by the developers. This does not necessarily mean that OpenAI plans to implement this feature in WhatsApp only – but this may also mean that they do not plan to support other platforms at first.

Most importantly, the new feature has not been announced by the company yet. Finding it in the code of the application proves that OpenAI works on developing this function – however, features discovered during development can be significantly changed or even canceled in the future.

Another interesting detail that was discovered in the app strings relates to "WhatsApp (3 minimum)." It might mean that users have to make at least three stickers in order to be able to add them to WhatsApp. It seems logical since stickers in WhatsApp are managed as sticker packs and the minimum number of stickers is needed for the creation or adding of such a pack. In this particular case, the requirement of having three stickers seems to be connected to the stickers' management in WhatsApp and not OpenAI's restrictions.

In this scenario, users will be able to make several stickers in ChatGPT, choose at least three stickers and add them to WhatsApp as a custom sticker pack. Such an option might be really helpful for those people who want to create their own sticker pack which features them, their friends, their pets, favourite characters or special expressions.

WhatsApp Already Has AI-Powered Sticker Creation

It should be noted that ChatGPT wouldn't be the first AI-driven service providing sticker generation for WhatsApp – Meta AI has already introduced such a feature for WhatsApp.

Users will be able to describe what kind of sticker they need in words, and the AI will be able to generate one according to their description. The advantage of this approach is that users won't have to edit an image by hand or use any third-party applications to do this.

There is, however, one major advantage of ChatGPT in this regard – its sticker generation capability would probably come together with WhatsApp in a more direct way.

The idea is that, instead of generating an image somewhere and then figuring out how to turn it into a sticker, ChatGPT would handle the whole process and give users a direct "Add to WhatsApp" button.

WhatsApp Already Lets You Create Custom Stickers

Without even considering the future ChatGPT integration, WhatsApp currently provides users with an opportunity to make personal stickers based on what is going on in their chats.

To make a personal sticker in WhatsApp, one will need to access the sticker section in any chat, which can include the one with themselves, and pick up the "Create Sticker" button. Next, users may select the picture from the gallery or even take one.

Users have an opportunity to convert selected pictures into stickers either through a cutout or the whole picture. Also, people can add additional elements such as text, emojis, and others.

After the sticker is created, it can also be saved by users for future use, which means that users have an opportunity to build their sticker collection based on personalized WhatsApp stickers.

As one may see, with the current capabilities, ChatGPT integration will hardly provide a totally new function for the app. The main advantage it might offer is convenience and speed of the process.

ChatGPT Could Make Personalised Stickers Much More Creative

The primary benefit of the feature would be the possibility for creative exploration. Since ChatGPT is already able to create images based on complex commands, adding stickers to the picture generation tool could allow users even more freedom of choice regarding the output.

Namely, one could potentially request from ChatGPT to create a humorous reaction sticker, a birthday sticker for someone, an animated sticker, or a sticker in style of a meme based on a specific idea. Adding such images to WhatsApp directly could be achieved with much less effort than before.

The feature could also help users without knowledge about image editing programs. Instead of manually deleting the background, editing images and preparing them for WhatsApp, users could let ChatGPT do all of that.

The new feature would therefore be especially appealing to those who often use stickers in WhatsApp and want more personalized options.

When Will ChatGPT Stickers Be Available?

Currently, there is no official date for the release of ChatGPT Stickers since the feature has been observed only by strings found within the Android application and it has not been announced by OpenAI.

Therefore, it is premature to assume that the feature will actually become available to all users of ChatGPT. It is common practice of OpenAI to test various functions internally or even in beta versions and sometimes the features that are found within the app during analysis do not make their way to the final product.

In addition, it is not known whether the feature will be accessible to free users, to those who pay for ChatGPT or to both if the feature is released.

One more aspect of ChatGPT Stickers is the matter of which messenger will support this feature. Although the discovered strings provide information about adding stickers in chat apps, only WhatsApp has been mentioned in the code so far.

For the time being, those who would like to create personalized AI stickers for WhatsApp should just wait until the official statement from OpenAI. If the feature is eventually launched, then it may become much easier to work with the stickers.
