ChatGPT Health Officially Launches in the US With Apple Health Integration and Personalized AI Medical Assistance

OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Health for all eligible users in the US, bringing personalized AI-powered health assistance to the web and iOS. With secure Apple Health integration, medical record support, and the new GPT-5.6 Sol model, ChatGPT can now deliver more relevant health insights based on users' health history and wellness goals.

ChatGPT Health

Officially, OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health for all eligible users in the United States, and this launch could be said to be one of the biggest strides towards making artificial intelligence a practical tool for health care. Initially limited to an early access program, the feature will now be rolled out on both the web and iOS versions to users aged 18 years and above, regardless of whether they are free or premium users of ChatGPT.

Through this new feature, ChatGPT would be able to give more personalized responses related to health by accessing the user's health information from Apple Health and the medical records provided. The users do not have to connect their health information but they can pose general health or wellness inquiries while others who connect can get personalized answers.

ChatGPT Health Brings AI-Powered Personalized Healthcare

With the ChatGPT Health tool, OpenAI seeks to revolutionize the way users engage with healthcare information. Unlike before where the AI gave general answers, the new innovation enables it to learn about one’s health history, if they decide to allow for their health data to be securely linked.

The tool can be accessed through the ChatGPT sidebar or through the More option on compatible platforms. It has been confirmed by OpenAI that ChatGPT Health is not available in Codex, hence only accessible in standard ChatGPT.

In order to receive personalized recommendations, one can link their Apple Health data as well as supported medical records from health partners like One Medical and Function Health. OpenAI notes that linking of health information is entirely up to the user.

Apple Health Integration Enables Smarter Health Advice

Once connected, ChatGPT Health can securely access a variety of health information, including:

  • Medications

  • Laboratory test results

  • Recent doctor visits

  • Sleep activity

  • Medical history

  • Health objectives

In other words, the additional information makes it possible for the AI to give answers that are more pertinent.

In case someone is having any dietary restrictions due to their health condition such as diabetes or allergic reactions, ChatGPT will make suggestions accordingly. Similarly, in case a user has been injured recently, the AI will provide information about low impact activities rather than high impact activities.

Along with providing suggestions, ChatGPT Health can also assist users in searching through their medical files and recognizing health trends over a period of time.

General Health Questions Still Supported Without Linking Data

OpenAI has clarified that users do not need to connect Apple Health or medical records to use ChatGPT Health.

Anyone can continue asking health-related questions such as:

  • Understanding medical terminology

  • Explaining lab reports

  • Learning about symptoms

  • Preparing questions before visiting a doctor

  • Developing healthier lifestyle habits

However, users who securely connect their health information receive responses that are personalized using their individual medical history and wellness objectives.

GPT-5.6 Sol Powers the New ChatGPT Health Experience

In addition to the launch of ChatGPT Health for public use, OpenAI also provided new information regarding the performance of its new GPT-5.6 Sol AI model.

As stated by OpenAI, GPT-5.6 Sol outperformed GPT-5.5 Instant and GPT-4o on the HealthBench Professional benchmark, a rigorous test measuring the performance of an AI system in various healthcare tasks, such as accuracy, communication, safety, adherence to instructions, context, and decision-making assistance.

These benchmark results indicate significant improvements in the AI's ability to provide clear, context-aware, and medically relevant responses while maintaining high instruction-following performance.

OpenAI also revealed the massive scale at which people already rely on ChatGPT for health information.

According to the company, more than 300 million health-related questions are now asked in ChatGPT every week.

Users are increasingly turning to the AI assistant to:

  • Understand medical reports

  • Interpret laboratory test results

  • Decode complex medical instructions

  • Prepare for doctor appointments

  • Build healthier daily habits

  • Learn about medications and treatments

The growing adoption highlights how AI is becoming an important tool for accessing health information, although OpenAI continues to position ChatGPT as a support tool rather than a replacement for licensed healthcare professionals.

Privacy and User Control Remain a Key Focus

Considering the confidential nature of the health information, OpenAI asserts that ChatGPT Health is a technology that has been created with privacy and control in mind.

The incorporation of health data is entirely an option for the users, and one can either decide to integrate Apple Health or the available medical records. According to the firm, such integration makes ChatGPT provide highly personalized responses.

The launch of the ChatGPT Health application marks an important event in the progress of OpenAI toward offering AI-based health assistance to everyone. Thanks to its seamless compatibility with the Apple Health app, optional linking of medical records, and the latest version of GPT-5.6 Sol model, ChatGPT can offer more accurate health data to its users.

Even though the service is only available to eligible users from the United States via the web and iOS platforms, it showcases OpenAI's ambition to make AI the tool that people will trust when working with health information and improving their well-being.
