Behaviour Interactive has revealed the future of Dead by Daylight with major announcements during its 10th anniversary broadcast. From official mod support and dynamic weather upgrades to the arrival of Jason Voorhees and Art the Clown, here's everything horror fans can expect as the game enters its 11th year.

For a franchise that had relied on scares for the past decade, none could have foreseen how successful Dead by Daylight would become in its asymmetrical horror subgenre. In just six years, this title has grown from an experimental project into a massive live-service experience with regular updates and new content through collaborations. But now, in its 10-year milestone, Behaviour Interactive is about to launch another era for this successful horror video game through its latest roadmap.
In their comprehensive anniversary livestream, the developers introduced a wide array of content that is soon coming to Dead by Daylight. These additions include much-demanded mods, significant improvements to the graphics, and legendary characters making their way to the game, among others.
The most interesting part of the presentation has been the declaration that official support for mods will finally come to Dead by Daylight in 2027. The idea has been circulating in the community for many years, and finally, it appears as though fans have something to look forward to. As mentioned by Behaviour, players will one day be able to develop unique and customized content, which includes maps created by themselves and entirely new modes of play. Though still far off in the future, the implementation of the tool could provide an extended lifespan for the game.
The concept of modding has enabled such video games as Skyrim, Minecraft, and Left 4 Dead 2 to remain fresh long after their initial releases. The addition of this feature would make it possible for the horror game to move into a new era.
In addition to this, another significant topic discussed during the showcase was about the future of visuals in the game. Despite the regular expansion of the game, its old graphics sometimes struggle to compete with current releases. Understanding this issue, Behaviour is planning a complete visual makeover of Dead by Daylight.
Some of the planned upgrades include the introduction of dynamic weather elements that are going to add an element of suspense and unpredictability to each match. A rainy environment, changing weather and updated visuals could definitely boost the atmosphere in the game and keep its characteristic tension. Instead of making a brand new game, Behaviour seems to concentrate on adding to what already exists and improving Dead by Daylight.
Undoubtedly, one of the most shocking revelations was made regarding the appearance of one of the most famous killers of all time. Finally, after many discussions and years of uncertainty, Jason Voorhees is going to be introduced in the game Dead by Daylight. The fact is especially exciting for the fans as there was no doubt that Jason would make an appearance in the game.
It should be noted that the masked killer was long awaited by the fans of the game, especially taking into account the successful collaboration of Dead by Daylight with other horror franchises such as Halloween, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and Alien.
While it's only natural for licensed content to make headlines, Behaviour made it clear that it is equally focused on original stories. By the end of the month, fans will have access to a completely new original chapter of DLC called The Life Road, which will expand the universe of the game with more stories and gameplay mechanics. The developer has been balancing out its lineup with licensed horror characters and original ones, making sure that Dead by Daylight remains unique and does not turn into a crossover game.
That's not all; August will feature the release of another original DLC called Chorus of Sin, introducing a new killer based on celestial motives dubbed The Judgment, as well as a new survivor character named Aurora. If Jason wasn’t enough to scare the living daylights out of people, another horrifying entity is set to make its way into The Fog. Art the Clown, the evil antihero who stars in the increasingly popular Terrifier series, will be joining Dead by Daylight come November this year. The character’s increasing popularity over the years has become one of the most compelling success stories in the history of modern horror, starting from his underground appeal to becoming a household name today.
Additionally, Behaviour announced that there will be a brand new map that will take inspiration from liminal spaces – areas known for being disturbingly familiar yet eerily empty at the same time. These kinds of places have become an internet meme recently because of the viral phenomenon known as the Backrooms. While there is nothing more to announce just yet besides a tease, the mystery behind this map certainly piqued the interest of many fans, especially considering it won’t release before December this year.
Apart from the new features in the game, the Dead by Daylight universe continues to expand with more surprising collaborations in the cosmetics sector. Fans of metalcore music should be looking out for the upcoming release of the Ice Nine Kills collection, whereas Iron Maiden will also be coming back to the game once again. More cosmetic items based on themes such as Silent Hill, The Walking Dead, Diablo 4, and even Scooby-Doo have been confirmed by the studio.
Including the latter in a game with a horror theme could prove to be unusual. However, Dead by Daylight has already shown its ability to incorporate different elements into the game to appeal to players. In this case, fans of classic stories such as Scooby-Doo have to be included in order to create more engagement among them.
Finally, Behaviour has shared more information about some of its plans related to its multimedia projects. An in-universe collaboration with Supermassive Games as part of their horror story spin-off called The Casting of Frank Stone will take place early next year.
Also, players should brace themselves for continued focus on live service gameplay. For example, The Black Banquet event is scheduled to run from mid-June to mid-July and should be a focal point during this time period. Seasonal Rifts will also continue in the coming years as they are full of challenge tracks and provide lots of exclusive items for completion.
The company even mentioned something about the long-discussed live-action Dead by Daylight movie. Although not much information has been released at the moment, the fact that regular updates on the game's progress are still being issued means that the project is still ongoing.
Despite ten years passing since its release, most live-service games find it challenging to keep going. However, the game in question seems to be determined to do much more than just last another year. This conclusion may be drawn based on planned support for mods, visuals improvement, addition of horror legends, and other innovations.
The longevity of the game has always depended on how it manages to reinvent itself but never sacrifices its essence. It knows what its players enjoy in horror games and continually gives them new surprises. If the news announced at this year’s anniversary event is anything to go by, Dead by Daylight might not only survive but also reach its peak.
For horror aficionados, both for survivors and killers, The Fog seems more appealing than ever.
