Dropbox to Discontinue Dropbox Paper Mobile and Desktop Apps in October 2025

Dropbox recently made a major change in its service approach by reaffirming that the Dropbox Paper mobile app is being sunset for both iOS and Android platforms on October 9, 2025. This move is a significant change since Dropbox is concentrating its efforts on the core co-editing platform and web experience instead of having dedicated desktop and mobile apps.

Why Dropbox Is Dropping the Paper Mobile App

Dropbox Paper has been a favorite application for collaborative document editing for quite some time, enabling users to create, edit, and share documents in real-time effortlessly. Nonetheless, with shifting market trends and growing emphasis on web-based solutions, Dropbox is planning to simplify its service offerings. The company announced that the Dropbox Paper mobile app will be discontinued from Google Play Store and Apple App Store after October 9, 2025, and will no longer be available for updates or support.

Even though existing users with the app already installed on their devices might still be able to use it, Dropbox warns that certain features will no longer work after the shutdown date. For clarity and to prevent problems, Dropbox suggests the uninstallation of the Dropbox Paper mobile app after October 9, 2025.

What Will Happen to Dropbox Paper When the Mobile App Is No Longer Available?

The silver lining for current Dropbox Paper users is that Dropbox Paper will still be fully accessible through web browsers. Windows PC, Mac, tablet, or smartphone, the point is that you can still create, edit, and collaborate on Paper files directly by simply signing into the web edition at paper.dropbox.com.

All your current Paper documents will be safely stored in your Dropbox account. There will be no interruption in your data or access to your files, and all documents will be intact. Users are still able to collaborate in real-time and use Dropbox's co-editing capabilities without having a specialized mobile or desktop app.

End of Dropbox Paper Desktop Beta App

Apart from stopping the mobile app, Dropbox is also ending the beta desktop version of Dropbox Paper on October 9, 2025. What this implies is that users who have been using the desktop beta app should now migrate to the web version in order to continue access to their Paper files and work in progress.

What Should Users Do Next?

If you currently use Dropbox Paper on your iOS or Android device, it is important to plan ahead for this transition. Dropbox recommends the following actions:

  • Uninstall the Paper mobile app after the discontinuation date to prevent feature errors or confusion.

  • Continue accessing and managing your Paper documents via any web browser at https://paper.dropbox.com

  • Inform your team members about this change to ensure a smooth transition to the web platform.

Dropbox's move to kill the Dropbox Paper mobile and desktop apps is also an industry-wide trend towards web-based applications for mobility, speed, and access across platforms. Although this shift will be inconvenient for some mobile users, it actually streamlines Dropbox's service ecosystem and allows users to access their documents without having multiple apps.
