Google has expanded AI Mode with Connected Apps support for YouTube Music, Canva, and Instacart, making AI Search more capable of handling music, design, shopping, and productivity tasks.

Google is quickly turning Search into an advanced AI-powered assistant, and the recent update is another big step in that process. The tech giant has announced that AI Mode will now be compatible with additional Connected Apps, which means that users will be able to connect not only to Google products but also to popular third-party apps such as YouTube Music, Canva, and Instacart through the AI-powered search feature.
The addition expands the list of possibilities provided by AI Mode, as it will allow users to do more than just get their questions answered. Now people will be able to create music playlists, design their projects and even add items to their grocery lists without leaving one application. In that way, Google gains additional competitive advantage in the AI assistant rivalry, as ChatGPT and Claude provide such features too.
Google AI Mode Expands Beyond Search
AI Mode from Google was originally designed mainly for providing conversational search results. At the beginning of this year, however, it gained an extension via Connected Apps that provided users the possibility to securely integrate personal Google services like Gmail and Google Photos, which made it possible for AI Mode to be able to recognize personal context and offer more personalized replies based on emails, photos, and other stored data.
Google has integrated Google Drive and Google Calendar in the AI Mode ecosystem, but Google Calendar integration has proven to be especially useful as it has made it possible for AI Mode to schedule activities based on a person's free time and even add meetings to Google Calendar while chatting with someone.
However, now Google is taking its AI Mode beyond its own ecosystem by integrating it with third-party applications.
YouTube Music Integration Lets AI Mode Create Playlists Instantly
YouTube Music is one of the key features that Google has added, and the integration offers AI-based music recommendations in the Google Search.
The user simply needs to specify what type of playlist he wants to have for different purposes like exercising, relaxing, traveling, studying, partying, or any particular mood. The AI Mode will recommend a playlist according to your request.
In the meantime, there will be a prompt that says "Asking YouTube Music" as the AI Mode is communicating with the streaming service. Finally, the recommendation card appears with the playlist suggested by the AI Mode.
The user can listen to the music through the YouTube Music streaming service or even save it forever by clicking on the "Add to Library."
Canva Integration Makes Creative Workflows Faster
Google will also bring AI Mode with an integration with Canva, making it even more efficient for designers, marketers, students, and content creators.
While before users could receive only creative ideas using AI Mode, now this function allows users to reach the appropriate Canva templates through it.
So, for instance, when a user wants to create a flyer, a presentation, a poster, an invitation, or a graphic for his social media, he can ask for a suggestion in AI Mode. In this way, the user receives both ideas and appropriate templates from Canva to start designing right away.
Instacart Integration Simplifies Grocery Shopping
Google is making the process of shopping even simpler with the help of their new collaboration with Instacart.
Meal, party, or event planners can get their ingredient list made by AI Mode in an automated way. After linking their Instacart account, AI Mode will automatically import the suggested ingredients in their shopping cart.
This feature was shown by Google through the example of a barbecue party plan. AI Mode prepared a full list of the needed ingredients, and then put all those items straight into the user’s Instacart shopping cart. The remaining task is to finalize the payment for those items from the Instacart application or web portal.
This feature helps simplify meal preparation along with grocery shopping.
Building on Gemini's Connected Apps Ecosystem
These recent updates are all part of Google’s larger strategy of “Connected Apps,” which was introduced within the Gemini application at the Google I/O event.
Gemini has already been integrated with numerous applications like Canva, Instacart, OpenTable, Spark, among others, in order to assist users in performing their tasks without having to switch between different applications.
The inclusion of the same functionalities in the Google Search will ultimately result in the transformation of AI Mode into a productivity assistant that will assist its users in researching, organizing, planning, creating, and shopping.
AI Mode Continues to Evolve Into a Full AI Assistant
Since the initial launch of AI Mode, Google has continuously developed it.
Amongst many other recent developments, some useful features have been added, such as checking the availability of certain goods in the nearby stores, as well as browsing different websites while still staying in the context of a conversation in AI Mode.
The inclusion of Connected Apps helps cement Google's future vision for developing AI Mode into an action-taking assistant, rather than an AI search tool.
Unlike before, when AI Mode was only responsible for searching information, now it assists people in performing actions on multiple platforms.
Availability
Confirmation from Google states that the new Connected Apps integration for YouTube Music, Canva, and Instacart is beginning to be rolled out to its users in the US this week.
Google also stated that AI Mode, which allows for integration with many Google and third-party apps, will continue to grow as it develops into an even more advanced AI assistant.
The recent AI Mode upgrade by Google has shown how fast the AI-based search is developing and moving past the conventional web-based search. Through the addition of the support of Connected Apps that include YouTube Music, Canva, and Instacart, Google is making Search able to entertain, create, and shop without requiring the users to move from one app to another.
With every new addition of Connected Apps, AI Mode by Google is becoming a fully functional digital assistant that can understand the context, do actions, and help the users perform tasks. This way, Google Search is becoming one of the most flexible AI solutions around.
