Google AI Plus Is Free for Students in India for One Year

Google is rolling out a new program for students in India that includes one-year free access to Google AI Plus along with access to Gemini Omni, 400 GB of storage space, increased Gemini usage, and improved study experience using AI technology.

Google AI Plus student offer

As a part of its latest student offer in India, Google is providing eligible college students one-year free access to Google AI Plus. This is coming on the back of an announcement that many students will be starting a new academic session and includes a number of AI products from Google all packed under a single free subscription which also includes 400 GB of cloud storage.

Apart from the subscription, there is a host of educational tools being added to Gemini and Google Search. This is aimed at helping students comprehend difficult topics, study for tests, organise work and create study plans. This move from Google aims at giving Gemini the edge of a dedicated study companion rather than just being an AI assistant.

The development is occurring at a time when AI firms are now beginning to look towards younger customers as well as education. For instance, OpenAI just released ChatGPT for Teens which is designed for people between the ages of 13 to 17 and offers learning-oriented features such as Study Mode and other safety features. The Google student deal is aimed at a different group of people, but the trend that is emerging from all of these developments is clear.

Google AI Plus Student Offer

The most significant aspect of the latest promotion by Google is that students from colleges in India will get a one-year subscription to Google AI Plus, which is absolutely free. This package comes with access to Google Gemini Omni, where eligible students will get access to the latest AI technology from Google without paying anything monthly.

The other aspect is that there is 2x higher usage limit in Gemini for students, which might be beneficial for those who tend to use AI for researching and brainstorming, summarising their study material, or tackling tough subjects. With higher usage limit, there are chances that students will not hit any restriction due to lesser usage limit.

One of the additional advantages is the possibility to get 400GB of storage space. Students, who use Google products for doing homework in college, may take advantage of extra cloud storage to store documents, presentations, PDFs, notes and any other materials used for studying.

There is yet another option for those students, who are planning to use some of Google's premium services. The company offers a discount pack, which includes both Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium service, saying that this way, one can save up to 70% off of the price. It is a combination of all advanced Gemini features plus ad-free YouTube.

If you spend much time on YouTube watching lectures, educational videos, tutorials and even just entertaining yourself, it might be a good choice for you. Unlike the promotion of AI Plus for free, the offer has a certain price tag attached.

Google AI Plus Student Offer Eligibility and Availability

However, Google has not given all the details about the eligibility criteria and deadline of the promotion within the announcement itself. Students who are eligible for the promotion will be able to redeem it via Google's student offer page.

Students who are interested in redeeming this promotion must take a look at the terms and eligibility criteria mentioned by Google before registering for the same. This promotion is exclusively for college students, hence, there might be a need for the verification of eligibility while redeeming the offer.

The fact that the period of one year is free makes the promotion quite interesting for those students who were thinking of subscribing to AI but were unsure of the price it offers.

Gemini Gets New Study-Focused Features

The promotion of Google's services amongst the students does not end at offering a free subscription only. There have been some additional developments related to studying and learning.

The student-specific tools have been introduced in the Gemini app, which now has a specific student hub. The hub gathers all educational capabilities of the software into one place and thus is meant to facilitate accessing and using studying tools for students.

For example, the tool called Study Notebooks was launched in Gemini. The software may employ diagnostic quizzes that will determine the strengths and weaknesses of the student and accordingly provide him or her with customized small study plans based on personal needs.

In this way, AI may become especially helpful for the students who cannot organize their studying process properly. Instead of communicating with an AI chatbot, students can use the software to determine their own gaps in knowledge and thus plan the revision properly.

Gemini Live Can Help Students Explore Deep Research

In addition, Google continues to enhance the utility of Gemini Live for students. They will now be able to engage in conversations regarding the Deep Research reports, and that will allow them to pose queries and learn more about some data away from the computer screen.

For instance, when studying a certain topic, the student may rely on a Deep Research report to get the information and later use Gemini Live to ask questions regarding particular segments or ask for clarification. It will help to explore extensive research data in a more natural way, by asking questions.

This feature can prove to be especially helpful for those who study better during a conversation rather than reading extensive reports.

Google Search Adds More AI Learning Tools

Google is incorporating the education-related AI functionality directly into Search as well. Students would be able to create interactive images to better grasp some complex ideas, which might help visualise such subjects that cannot be easily explained using texts.

Google would also incorporate practice quizzes for different disciplines, including the preparation for standardised exams. Thus, students would be able to take a test to verify their comprehension after they studied a certain topic.

The company is going to enhance the functionality of the learning process through Google Lens. Students would be able to explore the concept visually to comprehend the ideas step-by-step, which could be helpful while studying from physical textbooks or notes.

Such functionality can make smartphones a more effective tool for studying since students would be able to switch between searching for the necessary information, understanding concepts, and testing their knowledge using one application.

Google Wants AI to Support Personalised Learning

As per Google, the latest addition of educational features by the company has taken into account the learning science aspect. The overall objective of the company would be to offer personalized experience while at the same time making sure that the AI technology does not replace humans from the classroom environment.

In that regard, it would become possible for the user to develop customized study plan, quizzes, and explanatory answers that will let him/her approach the subject matter differently as per his/her needs. One who finds a certain subject difficult may get a simpler explanation from the technology, whereas someone else may utilize the technology for exploring the subject matter further.

Furthermore, the technology will be providing some new features that will assist the user in managing their projects, notebooks, and custom files.

Google AI Pro + YouTube Premium Bundle

While the Google AI Plus is quite easy to suggest to eligible students as a free service, the Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium plan requires more deliberation.

Despite promising savings up to 70 percent, it still costs approximately Rs 500 per month, which does not seem like a very good deal for budget-stressed students unless they utilize the AI functionality and YouTube Premium on a regular basis.

In case students frequently visit YouTube for lectures, tutorials, and other types of educational content, the package would be of greater worth to them. The ad-free nature of this service would also make studying online more comfortable.

For those students who rarely use AI and YouTube, however, it would make more sense to get the free Google AI Plus plan.

Should Students Claim Google's Free AI Plus Offer?

For the college students that qualify for it, the one-year free Google AI Plus deal could come in handy. The package offers Gemini Omni, twice the usage of Gemini, as well as 400GB of storage, with no need to pay for an additional subscription.

Students who do not use artificial intelligence as much could also use some extra cloud storage, while those who use Gemini for their research, studying and exams could benefit from twice the usage limit as well as the newly introduced study features.

The Google AI Pro and YouTube Premium combo is more conditional upon personal usage. College students who spend a lot of time on YouTube and need more advanced artificial intelligence features could take advantage of the reduced price on the pack. Everyone else, however, would probably prefer to take advantage of the free AI Plus plan.

By promoting Gemini to a broad audience of students in India, Google could also establish its AI service among students as something that is used for their academic purposes regularly. With the development of AI companies in the educational sphere, students will soon have more options for personalized learning, research and exam preparation.
