Instagram has introduced a useful new feature for carousel posts that allows users to add separate captions to each slide. Now available in India, the update gives creators, brands, and regular users more flexibility to tell stories, share guides, and keep followers engaged with every swipe.

Finally, Instagram has decided to introduce the feature that many creators have been waiting for since quite some time – the option to add a unique caption to each slide in their carousel post. This latest update will take care of one of the main issues with the platform in question, as it will give an opportunity to Instagram users to include a unique text to every photo or video that they want to include in their carousel post. In other words, until recently, there was no way to add several captions to one post, as users had to use just one caption per one carousel post.
One may think that the change described above does not matter much; however, in reality, it might completely change the way people interact with Instagram carousels. Carousel posts have already proven to be one of the most effective types of posts in terms of the level of engagement provided on Instagram. Moreover, it is worth noting that they are widely used by creators, brands, educators, meme pages, travel storytellers and others.
Instagram’s New Carousel Caption Feature
Under the new Instagram update, users can write captions that are individualized for each photo or video that makes up a carousel post. Thus, instead of just having one text block as the caption for a set of photos, users have the option of including commentary, jokes, instructions, etc., under each particular slide individually. This option is particularly helpful for posting things that progress in chronological order, such as travel logs, before-and-after shots, tutorials, recipes, explanations of products, descriptions of events, or even memes.
To activate the multiple captions feature, it is quite simple. When making a carousel post, all users have to do is tap on the caption field and enable the Multiple Captions option. After this step, Instagram will allow you to add different captions for each particular slide of the carousel post.
Make Carousel Posts Much More Engaging
It is important because carousel posts are one of the most interactive types of posts on Instagram right now. While posting an image, users usually tend to spend less time on that post compared to carousel posts where they can swipe through many frames, spend some time and get more information. Making it possible to have a unique caption on each of the slides, Instagram increases the story-telling capabilities of the type.
Now, creators can create content that tells even more stories. A travel creator can now make a description of each image separately. A tech creator can describe features of their product in several frames. A meme page can make memes with text that appears at a certain moment of the story. A small business can make a carousel with many products and give a separate description of each product. The last group of creators that can use this feature most widely is educational ones.
This resolves the problem associated with the traditional carousel post as well. Earlier, if anyone had wished to provide a detailed explanation about each image, the options were either to write a lengthy caption that may be skipped by the audience or overlay text on the images through an app. The option of having different captions will now allow users to do it seamlessly within Instagram itself.
Multiple captions functionality was launched right after Instagram released another very much demanded feature – profile grid arrangement. It will allow users to arrange their posts on the profile page without having to delete them and then repost again. Together, these two updates are indicative of the fact that Instagram is gradually beginning to respond to some of its community demands and become more user-friendly for creators.
It is a major development since Instagram has always been accused of caring mostly about algorithm changes and new features for Reels and ignoring any of the posting tools that it already offers. In this regard, it seems that Instagram finally started to realise that people still care a lot about their static posts, curation, story-telling, and profile appearance.
Despite the evident fact that the feature will be most helpful for creators and brands, it can be used by any other user. Actually, any Instagram users who share photos of travels, family, events, food, things, etc., can utilize multi-captions for creating more interesting stories.
For instance, while posting vacation carousel, the user no longer needs to write only one universal caption below. Instead, he/she can write one thought about each picture. The same goes for any posts about graduation or other events where the user can add his/her comments to different photos of the event. If several friends create the weekend dump, then each slide can get its description. Even posts with reactions or memes can be made more amusing thanks to the new feature.
Also, the option allows organizing information in a more efficient way since users no longer have to write long caption texts but divide the content into parts that would fit better with individual slides.
How to Use Instagram’s Multiple Captions Feature
It is easy to use the new feature. In order to put multiple captions for each slide in a carousel, the user must first create a carousel post like usual by choosing several photos and videos. Upon selection of the photos or videos, clicking on the caption field will give an option for “Multiple Captions.” Turning on the switch, the user can put captions to each photo and video in the carousel rather than having one caption for the whole post.
Like with other Instagram updates, there could be some difference in availability among users in the beginning stage, but the feature is currently rolled out to users in India.
While the ability of Instagram to add multiple captions to carousel posts might seem less exciting than, say, another video capability or an AI tool, it is exactly the sort of feature that could make Instagram posting more convenient. Carousels have already proven themselves to be one of Instagram's best content types because they involve swiping, longer viewing times, and increased engagement. The introduction of multiple captions in carousels means that the company gives users an opportunity to direct this interaction.
Multiple captions would be a useful addition for anyone who creates content, be it an individual or a brand, whether it comes to storytelling, explaining processes, presenting products, or making photo dumps more entertaining. For creators, brands, educators, or average users, this tool could be one of the most useful ones when it comes to posting on Instagram. If you regularly post carousels, this update is definitely something you should try now.
