iPhone 17 Price Drops in India Making It the Smartest Time to Buy

When the iPhone 17 came out last September, it was the most reasonable option compared to the other new Apple phones, but it still didn't get much attention. Most people were fascinated by the Pro phones, but the regular model saved some buyers who wanted to get an updated iPhone without having to pay almost Rs 1. 5 lakh. Now a little later, this phone is being sold for less on some big retail sites - which of course makes one wonder: should one get it now?

iPhone 17 Price Drop: Vijay Sales vs Reliance Digital

When the 256GB variant of the iPhone 17 first came out, it was priced at Rs 82,900. Now, that price has started to come down with sellers like Vijay Sales, for example, already offering a cut. Vijay Sales has a simple Rs 2,510 discount that takes the price to Rs 80,390.

That is only the beginning though. If you decide to pay by EMI using an HDFC Bank credit card, you get another Rs 4,000 discount at least, which means you will be paying only Rs 76,390. The others who use HDFC credit card not for EMI but regular are also getting benefits of up to Rs 4,500 instant savings. If you also take an exchange offer where you trade your old phone for the new one, then the final discounted price can become a lot lower based on how good the condition of your old phone is.

In contrast, the 256GB variant of the iPhone XR on the Reliance Digital portal is available for Rs 80,990. Although there is some discount on the basic price, there are no discounts through banks or exchange schemes that make it a more attractive choice than Vijay Sales.

Flipkart, another online platform, is also part of the competition, selling the phone for Rs 82,900, which has a discount of up to Rs 4,000 using an Axis Bank card or an SBI credit card, thus making its effective price Rs 78,900. Amazon does not have this device listed yet, and Croma and the official Apple store still have the product priced the same as before.

What Does the iPhone 17 Offer?

The Apple iPhone 17 incorporates a significant improvement over the previous model, particularly focusing on the aspects that an ordinary user would appreciate the most. At its core is the Apple A19 processor, the fastest from Apple at the moment, which not only guarantees great performance but also the chance of receiving system updates for several years a feature that Apple rarely fails to deliver.

The phone sports a 6.3-inch OLED screen on the front with a 120Hz refresh rate this is the first time that Apple has introduced such a feature to the regular iPhone line. This factor alone results in a drastic enhancement of the whole user experience, as scrolling or watching animations would not only become enjoyable but also fluid to the core. Besides, battery stamina may be regarded as one of the strengths since Apple states the device can even play videos for up to 30 hours, so this is definitely more than enough for a single day on average for most of us.

Just like the previous generation, iPhone 17 opts for a two-camera arrangement, installing two 48MP sensors for the working part. Although it might not be as flexible as the Pro versions, it ensures consistent good results in shooting. The selfie camera is now 18MP, greatly increased compared to the fixed 12MP for a long time, in previous models.

But the current discounting does not put the iPhone 17 into the realm of "budget" phones by any standards – it only makes it more accessible. If you were already planning to upgrade your phone to a new model of the iPhone line, perhaps now would be one of the best times for you.

Nevertheless, if you value quality and affordability equally, you would probably want to think twice before making the purchase. Indeed, the iPhone 16 is still cheaper than its predecessor and provides a pretty much similar user experience. Unless the 120 Hz screen resolution or the improved chipset are a critical factor for you, opting for the previous generation phone may be justified.

Finally, we cannot ignore such formidable opponents on the Android side as OnePlus 15, Samsung Galaxy S26, and iQOO 15, which feature extremely fast charging rates among other impressive specifications.

Ultimately, the decision comes down to priorities. If you value the iOS ecosystem, long-term updates, and Apple’s overall user experience, the iPhone 17 at its current discounted price is a solid buy. But if raw specifications and faster hardware features matter more, Android alternatives might give you better bang for your buck.
