The iPhone 18 Pro Max is tipped to feature Apple's largest-ever battery, with a leaked capacity of up to 5,425mAh in eSIM markets and 5,235mAh in India, promising improved battery life alongside the rumored A20 Pro chipset.

It seems like Apple is planning the most extensive battery upgrade for its iPhone ever seen. As reported by a recent leak, the iPhone 18 Pro Max might come with the first battery over 5,000mAh, thus becoming the largest battery ever included in an iPhone model. Whereas Apple has been always focusing more on software optimization and efficiency of the chipsets rather than improving battery capacity, this leak reveals that now the corporation seems to be delivering not only software but also hardware improvement to the users.
According to the plans, the launch of the iPhone 18 family of phones is scheduled for September 2026, and if all the specs are accurate, the Pro Max model is going to feature much better battery performance compared to the previous model. It is interesting to note that the battery capacity can vary depending on the country due to the eSIM presence.
iPhone 18 Pro Max Battery Capacity Leaked
Recent information about new regulations suggests that the iPhone 18 Pro Max may come with two distinct battery sizes, depending on the version that will be sold in certain countries.
The version that will be limited to using only the eSIM is rumored to be equipped with a 5,425mAh battery. Countries where physical SIM slots will remain will get a slightly smaller battery of 5,235mAh.
There is actually quite a logical explanation for such difference. Without the physical SIM tray in the device, there will be additional room in its interior, which Apple can use to put a bigger battery in.
While Apple never publicly announces battery capacities for its devices, past experience from regulatory certificates and leaks shows that their information was correct. The iPhone 18 Pro Max with such capacity will become the first smartphone made by Apple to have battery capacity greater than 5,000mAh.
Leaked Battery Capacities Across Regions
The latest leak also compares battery capacities between the current-generation iPhone 17 lineup and the upcoming iPhone 18 series.
Model | Physical SIM (EU/India) | eSIM Version (US) |
iPhone 17 Pro | 3,998mAh | 4,252mAh |
iPhone 17 Pro Max | 4,823mAh | 5,088mAh |
iPhone 18 Pro | 4,056mAh | 4,288mAh |
iPhone 18 Pro Max | 5,235mAh | 5,425mAh |
The figures are also in line with previous claims made by well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, who earlier suggested that Apple would finally equip the Pro Max with a battery exceeding 5,000mAh.
Notably, Apple will likely pair up its battery boost with the launch of its new A20 Pro chipset. The rumors suggest that the new chipset will be developed through a 2nm fabrication process.
As smaller fabrications improve performance while saving power, along with the bigger battery, the iPhone 18 Pro Max might see better results in terms of power efficiency.
To give some context, the present iPhone 17 Pro Max, powered by a roughly 4,800mAh battery, has been found to give about 12 hours and 35 minutes of battery endurance results. With the help of an increase in over 400mAh of battery capacity and the more efficient chipset, there could be improvements in battery efficiency while playing games, watching movies, capturing photos, and multitasking.
There are many other factors that affect the performance of the battery other than capacity, such as software optimizations, display efficiency, background operations, and cellular connectivity. This is because Apple has been known for maximizing hardware potential with its iOS in comparison to many other competing phones.
While this is an obvious improvement, the tech company is not expected to be ahead of many other Android phone makers regarding actual battery capacity. At present, Samsung's Galaxy S26 Ultra provides a battery capacity almost matching that of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, with the new Galaxy S27 Ultra rumored to bump up the battery capacity to 5,500mAh.
In the meantime, Chinese smartphone manufacturers have raised the bar higher with their innovative developments. Premium flagship models like the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, OPPO Find X9 Pro, and OnePlus 15, for example, reportedly have batteries with a capacity nearing 7,500mAh due to their silicon-carbon battery technology. According to industry leaks, flagship Android phones might be sporting 9,000mAh batteries by the end of the year.
Still, Apple has been focusing on energy efficiency rather than battery capacity of its smartphones.
Assuming all rumors are true, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will bring about one of the most significant battery boosts Apple phones have seen recently. Achieving the 5,000mAh capacity is an important landmark in iPhone development and should make a noticeable difference for daily use.
However, consumers who want to buy the phone in India need to take note of the fact that the physical SIM card version will be equipped with a somewhat smaller 5,235mAh battery.
Since the device is expected to hit the market in September 2026, many leaks related to the battery life, charging, and the A20 Pro SoC should come to light over the next few months.
