Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 Rumored for 2028–2029 Launch, Could Arrive on Both PS5 and PS6

New Spider-Man 3 rumors hint at a possible 2028–2029 launch window alongside speculation about PS5 and PlayStation 6 support. Here’s what fans expect from Insomniac Games’ next Marvel title.

PS5

Once again, there seems to be an upsurge in discussions about the fate of the upcoming Spider-Man 3 for PlayStation, as new rumors regarding this title appear online. Apparently, it is expected that the next installment of this popular video game franchise will be released sometime around 2028 or 2029, covering both the current generation of PlayStation 5 consoles and the next one of Sony's PlayStation 6 console.

Although nothing official has yet been announced about this new Spider-Man game from the company Sony Interactive Entertainment and from Insomniac Games itself, these rumors have managed to spread on such platforms as X.

Spider-Man 3 Release

Right now, there hasn’t been an official announcement regarding a release date, gameplay, teaser, confirmed platform, or development process for Spider-Man 3. All information available on the internet comes from speculations only.

However, why do these speculations keep popping up? It’s pretty easy to guess. For the past couple of years, Spider-Man has been among PlayStation's greatest franchises in terms of gaming. Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales received critical acclaim and huge financial success, with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 showcasing incredible improvements for the PlayStation 5 generation.

As a result, it’s natural to believe that Spider-Man 3 will be one of Sony's future exclusive projects.

PS5 Longevity Is Fueling Cross-Generation Theories

An important factor driving speculation about Spider-Man 3 includes Sony's PlayStation strategy. As Sony was shifting from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, Sony released multiple first-party games for both console generations until the latter gradually became more popular all around the world.

Nowadays, some industry experts think the PS5 generation will be operational almost until 2030. In this case, Spider-Man 3 would be able to release on both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 6 rather than becoming an exclusive next-gen title.

Some fans have noted that Sony might implement the same strategy it had used during previous shifts in hardware generations. As a result, Spider-Man 3 would launch on PS5 initially before receiving future updates for PS6 hardware. It is possible the game will also come out simultaneously on PS5 and PS6, but with future performance upgrades for the latter.

As of right now, though, Sony has revealed no information concerning PlayStation 6 or the platform support of Spider-Man 3.

Spider-Man 2 Already Showed What PS5 Can Do

There are also several reasons why many players are convinced that Spider-Man 3 will have a PS6 direction. Firstly, Spider-Man 2 already stressed the capabilities of PlayStation 5 pretty much.

These capabilities included incredibly fast traversal thanks to SSD, quick switching from Peter Parker to Miles Morales, enhanced ray tracing, better open world streaming, richer urban environment, etc.

Now many people are curious about what Insomniac Games will do with the franchise from a technical point of view in its newest release.

If the developers decide to significantly increase the map size, develop more advanced AI systems, expand destruction capabilities, or improve visuals once again, Sony might promote this game as the first technical demonstration of PlayStation 6. However, at the moment, there is not any official information related to Spider-Man 3's development.

What Fans Expect From Spider-Man 3

However, even without the statements made by the Insomniac Games on the sequel, there is a lot of excitement among the fans regarding its development.

The most significant theory in this case involves Green Goblin emerging as the main villain once the game developers conclude the Venom storyline, at least this is what the majority of players hope to happen.

The inclusion of Silk in the list of the playable characters is another theory that keeps making rounds. Players hope for the presence of larger and more interesting boroughs in New York as well as a new system of dual-character gameplay that includes more than one Spider-man.

There is much room for theories due to the fact that the story of the last game ended with several open threads.

Could Spider-Man 3 Become a PS6 Showcase?

Historically, Sony has utilized significant first-party franchises to prove the potential of its new consoles. Spider-Man, God of War, and Horizon have frequently served as examples of the capabilities of new consoles during transitions between generations.

Considering the value of Spider-Man franchise for PlayStation's gaming lineup, many people think Spider-Man 3 might eventually turn into Sony's flagship release for PlayStation 6.

In case Sony rolls out PS6 sooner than initially anticipated, it may also mean that Spider-Man 3 may move towards becoming more of a next-gen release rather than a true cross-generation game. Nevertheless, until Sony makes any official announcements regarding its future hardware plans, such speculations remain mere guesses.

As for the supposed 2028/2029 release date of Marvel's Spider-Man 3, at this stage, it seems like this is merely speculation that has been floating around on the Internet but has yet to become official information, as neither Sony nor Insomniac Games have released any news about the game's release date, gameplay mechanics, platforms, or development process.

On the other hand, ongoing discussions about PS5 life span, PlayStation 6 release date, and future developments of the Spider-Man series do remain a major talking point among many gamers online. The significance that Spider-Man holds for the PlayStation ecosystem suggests that its next installment will soon become one of Sony's most expected future games.

Whether or not Spider-Man 3 will be released as both a PS5/PS6 generation-crossing game or something entirely different, this sequel is only becoming more and more anticipated.
