Meta again ventured into the social media experimental side with the introduction of Vibes, a brand-new feature within the Meta AI app. The new addition is meant to act as a video feed in the style of TikTok or Instagram Reels but with a significant difference every single video in the feed is fully AI-generated. From scratch-made clips to remixed versions of previous ones, Vibes provides users with the option to create, customize, and share creative content driven by artificial intelligence instead of conventional creators.

The experience is surprisingly similar for anyone who has ever used Instagram Reels or TikTok. The Vibes feed includes the ability to Like, Remix, Comment, Share, or rate posts with a quick "Good" or "Bad." Users can simply create their own clips using text prompts, tweak visuals, add overlaid background music, or even play around with various animation styles. Every video also clearly shows the original text prompt used to create it, offering users a glimpse into the post-creation process behind each piece of content.
Meta has made sure that Vibes fits in seamlessly into its larger ecosystem. AI videos produced here are shareable directly in the Vibes feed, shareable privately in messages, or even cross-postable to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels, so AI-generated content can flow over into Meta's most-used platforms. The feature does not yet have a search function to identify particular creators, but viewers can nonetheless tap into creator profiles from the videos that they post.
In its initial phase, Meta has teamed up with Black Forest Labs and Midjourney to introduce more vibrant visuals and sophisticated AI features into Vibes, although the company is also still developing its own custom models. The feed, as described by Meta, will increasingly become personalized over time, responding to users' engagement habits and creative passions.
But so far, the reception has been anything but smooth. Several users have already begun their criticism of the feature on social media, referring to it as "AI slop" and asking who this product is being designed for. Some say that the feed itself reads more like an experiment than a helpful tool, while others view it as just another case of AI filling creative spaces with content that is soulless or impersonal.
This backlash is only adding fuel to the growing distrust of the Meta AI app itself. Previous controversies had already tainted the app in a bad light, particularly after chatbot exchanges revealed sensitive personal information like home addresses, bank details, IDs, and even purported crime confessions. With Vibes, now, according to critics, Meta could be doubling down on its reputation as a "Frankenstein" platform that marries experimental features without necessarily tackling user trust and issues.
Nevertheless, Meta appears to be committed to pushing AI as a core component of its social experience. Whether or not Vibes will ultimately gain traction or disappear like so many previous experiments is unknown. What is certain, though, is that the company is wagering significantly on an future in which AI-generated material not only augments creators, but serves as material itself.
