Motorola Signature Set to Redefine Premium Smartphones in India With Flagship Hardware and Long Software Support

After years of only testing the waters, Motorola is finally gearing up to make a serious push into the premium smartphone space in India with the upcoming Motorola Signature, scheduled to launch on January 7 officially. Over the past few years, Motorola has largely confined itself to budget and mid-range devices, reserving its premium ambitions mainly for foldable phones. With the Signature lineup, however, the brand seems ready to take on established flagship players head-on, and the early signs indicate that this may be Motorola's most ambitious smartphone yet.

Motorola Signature

Although the company has kept the official details under wraps, teasers so far have strongly focused on a "premium-first" approach. Now, closer to the launch, noted tipster Evan Blass has leaked a near-complete specification sheet, giving us a clear view of what Motorola is getting ready for Indian consumers.

Premium display aimed at power users

When it comes to the front panel, the Motorola Signature is rumored to come with an enormous display measuring 6.8-inches with an Extreme AMOLED display resolution of 1.5K resolution. The thing that stands out here is the display’s extremely smooth refresh rate of 165Hz; such display technology is found in very few mobile phones currently available for purchase in the Indian market – just the OnePlus 15 series is one such lineup with similar features.

The display is protected with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, along with an in-display fingerprint scanner – features that make the display even safer for everyday use with protection against damage as well as security for securing the phone with a fingerprint lock function.

Flagship-grade performance

Under the hood, the Motorola Signature will likely feature Qualcomm's newest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. This processor is meant for heavy multitasking, advanced gaming, and AI-driven features, placing the device firmly in the flagship category. The phone may come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and as much as 1TB of ultra-fast UFS 4.1 storage, making it a strong competitor to the likes of the performance-oriented OnePlus 15R.

Balanced battery with fast and wireless charging

Motorola is reportedly fitting the Signature with a 5,200mAh battery. Though this might appear modest when considering that some newer smartphones breach the 7,000mAh threshold, the true talking point rests on charging speeds. The device is expected to arrive with 90W wired fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and both wired and wireless reverse charging. In a move bound to delight many Indian buyers, Motorola will reportedly include the charger in the box, a feature that has become increasingly uncommon in the premium segment.

Camera setup built for versatility and video

Cameras seem to be the other area of the Motorola Signature that also looks impressive. The alleged specifications of the Motorola Signature reveal that the phone packs a quadcamera at the back, and all of these cameras sport 50MP sensors. These cameras include a 50MP Sony LYT-828 main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens that also has autofocus capabilities, and a 50MP Sony LYT-600 periscope telephoto lens that has 3x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom capabilities. The alleged specifications of the phone also confirm that the 50MP Sony LYT-500r lens will be responsible for taking selfies. The alleged specifications of the Motorola Signature confirm that the phone will be capable of recording 8K Dolby vision at 30fps and 4K Dolby vision at 60fps.

Major shift in software update policy

One thing, however, which has been significantly impacted in the Motorola Signature is the software experience. The device is expected to arrive running Android 16, which in itself is notable, but, what is important is the fact that this would be the first device from Motorola to receive seven years of support in the form of Android update support. This is quite an important turn in the road for Motorola, as this brand has always been poked fun at for not providing support for as many as seven years, as is offered in the case of the likes of Google or even Samsung.

Premium build, durability, and extras

Regarding the design and ruggedness, the Motorola Signature is rumored to arrive with an aluminum body, measuring just 7mm thick, and weighing approximately 186 grams. Moreover, it is also believed to come with the MIL-STD-810 certification, together with an IP68/69 dust-resistant and water-resistant body. Other upmarket features include stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 6.0, USB-C, eSIM connectivity, and even concept visuals offering stylus support, which tends to be limited to certain Motorola lines.

As per leaked specs available, it appears that the Motorola Signature will be one of the most reliable premium options available in the Indian smartphone market for the given price. With elite-class specs such as top-notch performance, high refresh rate AMOLED display, versatile camera system, high-end design, along with promise of software update for seven years, if Motorola is able to keep such competitive pricing in India, then there would certainly be buyers for such a premium device as well. As days for its January 7th launch are almost near, Motorola Signature is one such smartphone to watch out for.
