Nothing OS 4.0 Update Based on Android 16 Set to Launch This Autumn with Phone (3) First in Line

Following its splashy Launch of the Nothing Phone (3) and Headphone (1), London-based technology company Nothing, founded by Carl Pei, is now gearing up for its next major software release Nothing OS 4.0. The new update, which is based on Android 16, was initially teased during the Phone (3) official launch event. Though the software itself is still a secret for the time being, the firm's announcement has created quite a buzz among fans and geeks who are looking forward to find out what this new version has in store for them.

Nothing OS 4.0 Based on Android 16 Coming Later This Year

Nothing's CEO Carl Pei assured at the Phone (3) launch that the update of Nothing OS 4.0 will roll out later this fall, henceforth between September and November 2025. The update will be rooted in Android 16, which Google officially launched for Pixel phones just a month ago. While Pei did not touch on actual features of the update, the fact that there is one has generated excitement. The update should first be rolled out to the Nothing Phone (3), with later models following shortly.

Interestingly, towards the end of the Phone (3) launch video posted on Nothing's official YouTube channel, Carl Pei officially confirmed that the Phone (3) has Nothing OS 3.5 out of the box. This settles the transition schedule and indicates that the brand intends a phased upgrade strategy once Nothing OS 4.0 releases. Historically, Nothing uses a systematic rollout: the Nothing OS 3.0 update rolled out in September 2024, went to beta in October, and reached stable release by December 2024. We may anticipate the same this year as well.

Possible Features and Anticipation

Though information on Nothing OS 4.0 is not available, some industry observers surmise that the update may bring AI-based features, enhanced personalization, and additional enhancements to the Essential Space a productivity and privacy-centric dashboard initially launched in the earlier OS versions. As Android 16 introduces system-level updates such as adaptive AI, enhanced multitasking, and enhanced security, Nothing may leverage this platform to design an even smoother and more integrated experience for users.

Additionally, as AI is increasingly integrated into Android, Nothing may incorporate features that are intelligent battery life management, performance tuning, and even camera optimization. But for now, all features are speculative, at least until the beta gets underway.".

Nothing Phone (3) Packs Flagship Features in Premium Build

As we hold out for the OS update, it's also worth reminding ourselves what sets the Nothing Phone (3) apart. Positioned as the firm's proper flagship smartphone, the Phone (3) is driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC. This represents a big jump up from the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC used by its predecessor, the Nothing Phone (2). The new chip not only provides improved performance but also enhances battery life and enables more sophisticated AI and camera capabilities.

The phone has a 6.67-inch 1.5K AMOLED screen, which provides a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate, a top brightness of 4,500 nits, and that tough Gorilla Glass 7i protection. All this makes the phone perfect for content viewing, gaming, and use outdoors. The screen quality itself puts it at the top in the price bracket.

Battery and Charging

Perhaps the biggest upgrade over the Nothing Phone (3) is the battery. The phone comes with a 5,500mAh battery, a big improvement from the 4,700mAh one on the Phone (2). It has 65W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging support, meaning users can get to 100% in no time. This feature enhances the phone to make it more suitable for power users and content creators who need all-day usage.

Camera

Nothing has also stepped up its game in the camera department. The Nothing Phone (3) sports a triple 50MP camera setup, including:

  • A 50MP primary sensor

  • A 50MP periscope telephoto lens

  • A 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens

On the front, the device houses a 50MP selfie camera, making it a powerful tool for photography and video content creation. This is a notable upgrade from the dual 50MP rear sensors found on the Nothing Phone (2), and it brings the device on par with other flagship competitors in the Indian market.

Pricing and Availability in India

The Nothing Phone (3) will officially go on sale in India starting July 15, 2025. The smartphone is priced at:

  • ₹79,999 for the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant

  • ₹89,999 for the 12GB RAM + 512GB storage variant

The phone will be up for grabs on Flipkart, Flipkart Minutes, Vijay Sales, Croma, and other top retail stores in India. With the powerful specs, transparent design, and the Nothing OS 4.0 promise in the near future, Phone (3) can be a sizzling seller in its category.

With Nothing OS 4.0 in the works, Nothing is pushing boundaries not only in hardware, but software innovation as well. Official features, of course, are still under wraps, but the fact that the update is built on Android 16 means users have ample reasons to anticipate improved performance, privacy, and maybe even AI-driven experiences. As we enter the season of autumn, the tech community will be looking forward eagerly to announcements, beta releases, and new functionality that will shape the next iteration of the Nothing ecosystem.
