OnePlus and Hasselblad Partnership Ends

In a surprise but strategic decision, OnePlus CEO and Co-Founder Pete Lau confirmed the end of the collaboration with Swedish camera giant Hasselblad. For five years, this partnership was instrumental in improving OnePlus phones' imaging prowess, but the company is now looking to write the next chapter by creating its own proprietary in-house imaging solution.

The recently unveiled DetailMax Engine is still in the prototype stage, but initial tests have apparently been "promising." According to Pete Lau, the revolutionary image engine is intended to deliver more lifelike photos with greater clarity and enhanced performance across a range of conditions, such as dim lighting. This is the first time in company history when an OnePlus phone will be shipped with an in-house developed image processing platform, instead of using third-party solutions only.

While the CEO avoided revealing the technical details of the DetailMax Engine, he teased about sophisticated algorithms that will provide greater dynamic range, better skin tone representation, and quicker photo and video processing. Lau also went on to say that while the collaboration with Hasselblad is ending for imaging technologies for smartphones, OnePlus is willing to work together on other initiatives in the future.

Display Technology and Design

Additional leaks by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo indicate that the OnePlus 15 will also have a third-generation "oriental" screen that comes from BOE, with apparently leading the screen performance ranking list. The device is likely to have a 6.78-inch flat LTPO AMOLED screen offering a crisp 1.5K resolution and an ultra-smooth 165Hz refresh rate. These specifications hold out a promise of an engaging visual experience, perfect for gaming, video streaming, and multitasking.

On the design side, OnePlus 15 will feature a reworked square-shaped rear camera module, a significant departure from the round design for previous models. The smartphone is expected to carry a 50-megapixel three-camera setup, further improved by the new DetailMax Engine for superior photo and video recording capabilities.

Performance and Battery

Compliant with flagship standards, the OnePlus 15 is said to carry a big 7,000mAh or even greater capacity battery, giving top-class endurance to see heavy usage through. It will also support 100W wired fast charging, letting people refill the battery quickly and remain online for longer without going offline.

With the persistent increase in gaming and multimedia demands, the integration of powerful chipset, speed refresh display, large battery, and high-end imaging solutions makes the OnePlus 15 a serious player in the premium smartphone segment.

The launch of the DetailMax Image Engine is a major step in OnePlus's path towards innovation and self-sufficiency in smartphone tech. By putting an end to its dependency on Hasselblad, OnePlus is placing its bets on internal know-how to provide a competitive advantage, particularly in terms of camera.

Although official specifications and pricing have not been released yet, insiders believe the OnePlus 15 will come in early 2026 and be sought after by both tech aficionados and photography enthusiasts. The phone is emerging as a powerhouse with the latest in display technology, long battery life, and innovative imaging solutions.
