There is still more than six months to go before the launch of the OnePlus 16, yet reports regarding the device continue to surface. The latest leaks suggest that OnePlus's ambition to make a strong comeback in the camera segment is becoming increasingly serious. A new leak indicates that the telephoto camera setup on the OnePlus 16 could undergo significant improvements. Notably, this includes the potential use of a 200MP periscope telephoto camera a figure that is truly remarkable.
This information first surfaced on Weibo via a leaker named "Smart Pikachu," who revealed that OnePlus is currently testing a 200MP sensor. This 200MP sensor could potentially be the Samsung HP5 sensor the very same sensor that has previously been utilized in smartphones such as the Realme GT 8 Pro. The primary objective of this upgrade is to enhance zoom quality.
If this proves to be true, the upcoming device could offer superior zoom photography capabilities compared to the OnePlus 15. This is an area that has historically been a weak point for OnePlus when compared to its competitors.
In terms of design, the OnePlus 16 is rumored to feature ultra-thin bezels; the bezels on the front of the device are expected to measure less than 1 mm in thickness a significant improvement compared to the 1.15 mm bezels found on the OnePlus 15.
The smartphone is expected to feature a 1.5K display with a refresh rate of up to 200Hz, which would be a substantial upgrade over the 165Hz display of its predecessor. Regarding the processor, reports suggest that the OnePlus 16 will be powered by Qualcomm's yet-to-be-launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset. This chip is likely based on 2nm process technology, promising enhanced performance, reduced battery consumption, and improved efficiency. Additionally, the handset may house a robust 9,000mAh battery and is expected to come equipped with LPDDR6 RAM. For security, the device may feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and is likely to run on OxygenOS 17, based on Android 17.
However contrary to earlier claims the device will not feature a built-in active cooling fan for thermal management. Furthermore, this smartphone will not include capacitive shoulder triggers for gaming purposes.
The price of the OnePlus 16 is expected to start at approximately CNY 5,000, while its Indian pricing could range from around ₹67,000 to ₹70,000. This device may be slightly more expensive than previous OnePlus flagships; this price hike could be attributed to the current shortage of memory chips. As for the launch, it is likely to debut in China in October 2026, with a global launch expected by November 2026 around which time it is also likely to launch in India.
