Sony has officially announced the next PlayStation State of Play, which takes place on June 2, 2026. This day will mark the beginning of Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest 2026. As such, if you have a PS5 console, this is your lucky day!

According to the PlayStation's official X (former Twitter) account, the event will last more than an hour – that is quite a lengthy period for multiple game presentations!

Viewing the State of Play is very easy. The PS5 event will be streamed for free by the PlayStation website. You don't have to have either a PS5 or PlayStation Plus to view it. Just visit the PlayStation YouTube and Twitch channels at the appropriate time. The event features worldwide premieres, gameplays, and news of upcoming PS5 games. Basically, the event consists of familiar games with a few surprises at the end.

The One Game Sony Has Already Confirmed

So far, Sony has officially announced only one game Marvel's Wolverine. The game is being made by Insomniac Games, the same developer behind Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The game will come out globally in September 2026.

Prepare for a long, deep gameplay demonstration. Most likely, Insomniac will use this State of Play slot to demonstrate what kind of combat Wolverine has, how the story is like, and maybe even what the world of the game is like. Since the game is coming out only a few months from now, it should be quite a long one.

Other Games That Could Show Up

Beyond the confirmed Wolverine reveal, there are several other titles that could make an appearance. Here is what the community and credible leakers are expecting:

Remake of God of War is already being talked about. State of Play event will be an ideal platform where such an announcement can be made officially. Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls and Control Resonant are also names that many people are looking forward to seeing.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet from Naughty Dog is yet another name that deserves a mention here. Games shown at State of Play events have their premieres all around the world towards the end. Intergalactic will be a great choice as far as the gaming crowd is concerned.

The GTA 6 Question

Absolutely, there are some fans who are waiting for the trailer number three of GTA 6 at State of Play. Would Rockstar consider doing so? The chances are low. Rockstar has its own agenda and it usually does not rely on any platform for showcasing its game.

However, it is not completely impossible. Rockstar is preparing for the major marketing blitz of GTA 6 which is slated to be released in November 19. With such an enormous PlayStation fanbase, making an announcement during State of Play makes sense for Rockstar. Just do not expect it to happen.

Third-Party Studios Are in the Mix Too

The State of Play does not only showcase first-party Sony games. There is still room for third-party games during these events, which implies there can be some surprises from third-party developers new PlayStation 5 titles that are not yet announced.

These are where some real surprises may lie. Watch out for indie developers and mid-tier publishers, as they usually end up pulling off the best reveals at these events. Timing plays a crucial role in this case. State of Play takes place ahead of Summer Game Fest 2026, an annual event considered to be one of the most important in the gaming industry. In this regard, PlayStation gets its moment to shine and create the atmosphere for another great summer.

As Marvel's Wolverine will be released in September, God of War Remake will follow soon, and GTA 6 will see the light in November, this period looks extremely promising. Thus, this State of Play should provide a detailed plan for the next six months.
