Xiaomi's sub-brand Poco is set to launch the POCO X8 Pro series in India on March 17 at 5:30 PM (IST); a global launch for the series will also take place in select other countries on the same day. This series comprises the Poco X8 Pro and the Poco X8 Pro Max. Although the official launch date has been kept under wraps until now, Xiaomi has been revealing details regarding various specifications and features of these smartphones ahead of the launch. Both smartphones are expected to feature a large OLED display, a MediaTek chipset delivering powerful performance, and a long-lasting 9000mAh battery a detail that Xiaomi recently confirmed.
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi will launch two new models the Poco X8 Pro Max 5G and Poco X8 Pro 5G in India on March 17 at 5:30 PM IST. Industry reports suggest that these two devices could be globally rebranded versions of Xiaomi's China-exclusive Redmi Turbo 5 and Redmi Turbo 5 Max. Both smartphones will be available for sale in India via an e-commerce platform immediately following their launch. Specifically, these smartphones will be available for online purchase in India through Amazon, As was recently the case, a dedicated microsite has been launched for the Poco X8 Pro series.. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether these two handsets will be launched via a soft launch, a livestream, or a live event.
Alongside these two models, the company has confirmed that the Poco X8 Pro 5G Iron Man Edition will also be launched on the same day information shared by POCO India on X and we had previously provided a glimpse of its design in our previous blog post on AndroBranch.
The company has not yet revealed the color options, but indications suggest that these handsets will launch in the country in at least black and white variants. Both phones will feature a metallic mid-frame design. With an IP69K rating, they will offer superior protection against water and dust. The POCO X8 Pro will feature a glass back, while the POCO X8 Pro Max will come with a fiberglass rear panel. Dynamic RGB lights are positioned around the camera module, which will glow during calls, notifications, music playback, and gaming sessions. The X8 Pro Max will weigh approximately 220 grams and have a thickness of 8.2mm. The X8 Pro will weigh approximately 201 grams and have a thickness of 8.3mm.
Speaking of the display, the high-end POCO X8 Pro Max will feature a 6.83-inch display with 1.5K resolution. It will offer 120FPS gaming support in several popular titles, such as BGMI, Call of Duty Mobile, and Standoff 2. Additionally, the HyperOS Game Manager UI has been optimized to ensure a smoother gaming experience; the games will also benefit from HDR support, resulting in enhanced visual quality.
Turning to the device's internals, the POCO X8 Pro Max is expected to be powered by the flagship-grade MediaTek Dimensity 9500s processor, which rivals the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Meanwhile, the POCO X8 Pro will feature the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra processor. Both chipsets utilize an "All Big Core" CPU architecture, delivering high-end performance and superior gaming capabilities. To ensure efficient thermal management, the phone will be equipped with a Vapor Chamber Cooling system spanning up to 5800mm². The company claims that the POCO X8 Pro Max has achieved a score of over 3,100,000 points on the AnTuTu benchmarking platform. In comparison, the POCO X8 Pro scored over 2,300,000 points on the same benchmarking platform. Furthermore, both smartphones will support LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The POCO X8 Pro series is likely to come pre-installed with HyperOS 3, based on Android 16. This is the same software that was recently featured in the newly launched Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra devices.
The POCO X8 Pro will feature a 6500mAh battery, while the POCO X8 Pro Max will be equipped with a larger 9000mAh battery. However, the global variant of the X8 Pro Max may come with an 8500mAh battery. Both phones will support 100W fast charging as well as 27W reverse wired charging. For durability, they feature IP68 and IP69 ratings, and also include useful features such as an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and an IR blaster.
Both phones will feature a dual rear camera setup, comprising a 50MP Sony IMX882 primary camera (f/1.5, OIS) and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. Accompanying this, the camera module will offer features such as AI Night Mode, Zero-Delay Shutter capture, Motion capture, 4K Night Video, and 4K video recording at up to 60FPS, while the front camera is expected to be a 20MP Samsung OV20B sensor.
The price of the POCO X8 Pro is expected to start at approximately ₹35,000, while the POCO X8 Pro Max could be priced around ₹42,000. The X8 Pro Max is likely to compete with the iQOO 15R priced at ₹44,999 which features a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor. Meanwhile, the POCO X8 Pro will go head-to-head against performance-focused smartphones such as the POCO F7, iQOO Neo 10, and OnePlus Nord 5.
