Realme is once again set to disrupt the mid-range smartphone market in India with the announcement of its Realme 15 and Realme 15 Pro on the 24th of July at 7:00 PM IST. This time around, however, the company is adopting a strategic move by avoiding the Realme 15 Pro+ variant. As per Francis Wong, Realme's Head of Product Marketing, this transition is meant to consolidate the product portfolio and cut down on overlap between segments. Interestingly, the Realme 15 Pro will continue the heritage of the Realme 14 Pro+, basically being its technical successor in terms of features and performance.
Realme has now formally renewed the sole microsite with complete specs for the vanilla Realme 15 5G. One of the major boasts is the MediaTek Dimensity 7300+ chipset powering it, which is claimed to have scored more than 7,40,000 points on the AnTuTu benchmark. That places it above several opponents within its category. The chipset has support for 120 FPS gaming and has a peak clock rate of 2.5GHz. Realme says that this translates to up to 20% improved frame rates and 20% higher energy efficiency compared to competing processors.
As compared to the global variant of the Realme 14 5G, it was launched with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, although it never hit Indian shores. While several phones in the Realme 14 series found their way to Indian shores, the Realme 15 appears to be designed to make a much more powerful push into Indian shores with its revised internals and premium build.
Battery life is now a major differentiator in the sub-₹20,000 segment, and Realme seems to have taken this seriously as well. Realme 15 has a humongous 7,000mAh battery a clear step up from the 6,000mAh cell on the Realme 14. And there's more. It also supports 80W fast charging, doubling down on charging speed and battery life. Realme asserts the phone can handle up to 22 hours of YouTube video playback and an astonishing 83 hours of Spotify streaming music on a single charge.
The key to achieving this stunning battery life may be silicon-carbon battery tech, which provides bigger battery capacity without adding bulk or thickness to the phone. Even with the big battery, the phone has a slender profile of only 7.66mm, making it one of the thinnest phones in its category.
Another highlight of the Realme 15 is its 4D curved screen, which gives users a better viewing and touch experience. The screen also has a 144Hz refresh rate for super-smooth scrolling and animations, which proves beneficial for gamers and content viewers. The 6,500 nits of peak brightness is perfect for viewing HDR content and guarantees legibility even in direct sunlight.
With a 94% screen-to-body ratio and 2,500Hz zero-lag touch response, the screen is designed for immersive experience. Moreover, the screen is shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass, providing added strength against accidental scratches and drops. Realme has also included an IP69 rating for dust and water resistance, a feature not so commonly found in this price class, providing users with an added sense of security while handling the phone outside or during unexpected rain or humidity.
The Realme 15 doesn't spare the camera department as well. The module on the back features a 50MP primary sensor along with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, giving the users the ability to click adaptable shots from various angles. On the other side of the phone, Realme is putting a 50MP selfie camera, which is a huge upgrade compared to what is usually found in this price bracket.
In addition, Realme is adding AI-driven features to facilitate the photography and post-processing experience. AI Party Mode, AI Glow 2.0, and AI Edit Genie (voice-based editor with more than 20 languages supported) are designed to provide users with increased creative freedom and automation during photo and video editing. The intelligent tools are expected to resonate well with the younger generation and content creators.
Aesthetically, the Realme 15 does not fail. It comes in Silk Pink, Velvet Green, and Flowing Silver colour options, all of which lend a premium feel to the phone's look. The slim and sleek form factor paired with rich colour options makes the phone not only a performance monster but also a fashion commuter.
The back panel probably has a matte or frosted finish to minimize smudges from fingerprints and offer improved grip, rendering it both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
While the limelight has been primarily on the Realme 15, the Realme 15 Pro is also launching concurrently and will be the technical heir of the Realme 14 Pro+. This dual-launch strategy mirrors the attempt by Realme to streamline its smartphone portfolio while maintaining room for upgrades for users who are on the lookout for premium features. Although specs for the Pro variant have already been announced previously, this launch will address both budget users and those interested in a slight increase in power and feature support.
Considering the anticipated price range below ₹20,000, the Realme 15 5G will face direct competition from the Vivo T4x, which is also powered by the Dimensity 7300 chip, and the OPPO K13, which runs on Snapdragon 6 Gen 4. Realme, though, has an advantage through its humongous battery, 80W fast charging, high refresh rate screen, and IP69 rating all features that are usually not packaged together at this price point.
Furthermore, Realme's history of providing regular software updates, value-for-money feature sets, and distinctive design language might turn Realme 15 into one very desirable choice for Indian mid-range consumers.
By releasing the Realme 15 and Realme 15 Pro on July 24, Realme seems to be betting big on India's mid-range smartphone segment. Realme has loaded the Realme 15 with high-end specifications such as Dimensity 7300+ SoC, 7,000mAh battery that can be charged at 80W, 144Hz screen, and IP69 rating something that is difficult to compete with under ₹20,000.
As competition remains fierce in the budget and mid-range segment, Realme's daring decisions with hardware and AI-based software may reward richly. As a gamer, content creator, or simply someone seeking a solid all-rounders smartphone, the Realme 15 5G looks like a worthy choice in 2025.
