Telegram Rolls Out Major Update With Rich Text Editor, Communities, Ephemeral Bot Messages and Bigger GIF Library

Telegram has introduced a major platform update featuring a Premium Rich Text Editor, Communities for organizing chats, Ephemeral Bot Messages for private interactions, and a massive multilingual GIF library.

Telegram

Even though there have been some controversies surrounding Telegram recently, the company has been pushing out an upgrade to its messaging platform that is packed with new features and designed to cater to creators, companies, developers, and online communities. Some of the new features that have been added to Telegram include the Rich Text Editor for Premium users, the new Communities feature, Ephemeral Bot messages, and an updated GIF library with multilingual search options.

According to Telegram, the cloud-based messaging platform, these features have been designed to enhance content creation, community management, and privacy.

Telegram Rich Text Editor

One of the most prominent updates in Telegram is its new Rich Text Editor that is available exclusively for Telegram Premium users right now. Telegram's editor helps users produce professional-looking posts without the need to use any third-party apps or tools outside Telegram.

The feature provides plenty of formatting opportunities that help format long texts in an easy way. It is possible to create such formats as:

• Bullets

• Numbers

• Tables

• Code snippets

• Quotes

• Advanced text formatting

It is especially useful for creating newsletters, documentation, educational material, company announcements, product updates, and community posts.

Also, Telegram now offers an opportunity to insert pictures and videos into posts making the message more visual and engaging without the need to leave Telegram's interface.

The editor in question utilizes Telegram's proprietary Cocoon AI editor that can accommodate up to 32,768 characters of messages.

Telegram Communities

Telegram has even brought forth a revolutionary Communities feature where the channels, groups, and bots sharing common topics and interests are brought together under one community.

Users no longer need to go through the trouble of searching different channels but can simply look up all their conversations from one place. This feature adds immense organization to Telegram, especially for bigger communities with numerous discussion forums.

The feature is expected to benefit:

  • Schools and educational institutions

  • Companies and workplaces

  • Open-source software projects

  • Gaming communities

  • Fan clubs

  • Large online organizations

The controls will help the community admins determine whether the users will have unrestricted entry to such chat groups or not. For their part, users will be able to quickly browse for such groups and participate in the discussions from the community page.

Such an update may be helpful in the management of Telegram communities which usually have many channel and discussion groups on the same subject matter.

Ephemeral Bot Messages

Additionally, Telegram is upgrading its bots by launching Ephemeral Bot Messages.

These are unlike the regular messages sent by bots which everyone in the group chat can see. Ephemeral messages can only be seen by the person talking to the bot. The rest of the people in the group are not privy to the information.

Telegram says this feature can be used for several practical purposes, including:

  • Greeting new members

  • AI-generated conversation summaries

  • Error notifications

  • Confirmation messages

  • Personalized responses

  • Interactive bot commands

These personal messages could be created either automatically by the bots or via supported commands that are indicated by a particular icon within the bot menu. This way, users understand that this reply will not be available for anyone except the user and bot.

The function is predicted to be especially valuable for AI assistants, moderation bots, customer service chatbots, and community managers.

Telegram Expands GIF Library With Multilingual Search

Another significant development occurs regarding the GIF service of Telegram.

As per the claim made by the company, the number of GIFs contained in Telegram's GIF library is in excess of 350 million, thus making it one of the largest libraries of GIFs on any messaging platform.

But perhaps what is most important about this update is that it allows for searches in over 36 languages.

Telegram also highlighted the privacy of this search system, as searches would not be tracked or made public in any way. It will make the feature easier to use for Telegram's diverse user base.

In light of this update, Telegram shows its increased focus on striking a balance between productivity and privacy. On one hand, the Rich Text Editor gives creators an ability to use an advanced publishing tool right within the app, and Communities facilitate management of chat networks. Ephemeral Bot Messages allow for a more private communication between bots and users, and a new multilingual GIF database will benefit everyday communication.

These new tools are just another step in Telegram's evolution from a basic messaging app into a complete environment for creators, entrepreneurs, developers, and massive chat communities. At the same time, some updates, like the Rich Text Editor, will be available exclusively for Premium subscribers.

That character limit helps users create lengthy articles and updates in a single message. However, at first, the Rich Text Editor will be exclusive for Premium users.
