Uber Introduces Record My Ride, Ambulance Assistance, Custom PIN and More Safety Features for Users in India

Uber has announced four new safety features in India, including Record My Ride, Ambulance Assistance, Don't Type &Drive, and Set Your Own PIN, aimed at enhancing ride security and emergency response.

Uber

Uber has added a new set of safety features for its customers in India, thus reinforcing its efforts to make each ride safe for its passengers and drivers. Revealed at a special event held in New Delhi on Monday, these include four innovative safety features that Uber has added to its safety ecosystem. These are Record My Ride, Ambulance Assistance, Don't Type & Drive, and Set Your Own PIN.

Each of these features is aimed at enhancing emergency assistance and minimizing distractions while driving as well as empowering passengers with greater control over their trip confirmation. In addition to these new safety features, Uber's existing safety tools include RideCheck, Audio Recording, Women Rider Preference, Helmet Selfie Verification, Phone and Address Anonymization, Seatbelt Reminder, and 24x7 Safety Line.

Uber Introduces Record My Ride for Better Driver Safety

Amongst all the other details provided by the company, the most interesting one is Record My Ride, which allows riders to make in-cab encrypted videos from the Uber Driver app whenever they are feeling unsafe.

Uber claims to be the first ride-hailing platform in the market to launch such a unique feature for making in-trip videos. The difference between this technology and normal video recording system is that the videos will remain encrypted during the entire trip and neither the rider nor the company can access the video recorded during the trip.

The video recording can only be accessed if it is voluntarily shared by the driver or rider during their safety report post an incident. This will ensure that the privacy of sensitive videos is not compromised at any point but is there when needed.

This will certainly give extra peace of mind to drivers.

Uber Partners with Dial 4242 for Ambulance Assistance

Uber is also collaborating with Dial 4242 to provide Ambulance Assistance across all parts of India to add yet another dimension to its emergency assistance service.

In case of an accident while traveling with Uber, the rider or driver can approach the existing 24x7 safety line of Uber for urgent medical assistance. With this collaboration with Dial 4242, emergency ambulances can now be arranged in case of any emergency situation.

The purpose behind this inclusion is to decrease the response time in emergencies and ensure quick medical assistance, especially in cases of road accidents.

This addition makes it evident that Uber is moving ahead to not only report an incident but assist through the whole process of emergency.

Don't Type & Drive Helps Reduce Driver Distractions

To promote safe driving, Uber has launched another feature by the name of Don’t Type & Drive, which is aimed at drivers exclusively.

As per this update, drivers will not be allowed to send text messages using the Uber Driver application while they are driving. The idea behind the launch of this feature is to encourage the driver to safely park first before sending any message.

Distractions to drivers are one of the biggest causes of road accidents, and as far as Uber is concerned, it intends to keep the driver’s eyes on the road while avoiding distractions while on rides.

Even though drivers can communicate while they are safely parked, it seems that this will be a better environment for all passengers on board.

Set Your Own PIN Gives Riders More Control

Another way that Uber is offering control of ride verification to its passengers is by introducing the Set Your Own PIN option. Earlier, the company was responsible for automatically generating verification PINs for eligible trips. The new option enables the rider to select his/her preferred PIN for the ride verification.

With the new feature, the process of verifying trips becomes more personalized for passengers and allows them to enter the correct vehicle before starting a ride. According to the company, this new feature is meant to enhance security during trips without making them cumbersome for the riders.

Uber Continues Expanding Its Safety Ecosystem in India

The newly announced features are part of Uber's broader effort to build one of the most comprehensive ride safety ecosystems in India.

The platform already offers several built-in protections, including:

  • RideCheck

  • Phone and Address Anonymisation

  • Safety Preferences

  • Women Rider Preference

  • Audio Recording

  • Helmet Selfie Verification

  • Seatbelt Reminders

  • 24×7 Safety Line

With the addition of Record My Ride, Ambulance Assistance, Don't Type & Drive, and Set Your Own PIN, Uber is further enhancing both proactive and emergency safety measures for millions of users across the country.

Safety remains one of the primary concerns of all ride-hailing applications, and Uber is not an exception. Instead of adding a single safety feature, the company has introduced a number of features that are able to protect different stages of each ride from various problems such as driver distraction, trip validation, emergency medical help, and more secure reporting about incidents.

One should note that among many of the features mentioned, Record My Ride seems to be the most interesting innovation because of its privacy-protected and encrypted recordings of rides. However, such features as Ambulance Assistance and Don't Type & Drive prove that the company really cares about safety of passengers and drivers.

These new features are going to appear soon in India where Uber operates.
