Vivo S60 Is the Summer Phone We've Been Waiting For and It's Coming to India

From a shimmering star-sea back panel to a 7,000mAh+ battery and periscope camera, the Vivo S60 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting mid-range phones of the season.

Vivo S60

The Vivo S60, the latest offering from Vivo, is set to debut as a major player in the world of camera phones. It will continue the lineage of the highly successful S series range of mid-premium devices, which have become a rage over the last few years. Prior to its actual release, some reliable sources have revealed many details about the smartphone.

The product manager at Vivo, Han Boxiao, revealed a post on Weibo, which reveals to us the direction of design taken for S60. He said that S50's "Winter Confession" colour theme an elegant, clean white colour was well-received by consumers.

However, the design of S60 changes course with the coming of summer. It will have a design inspired by the sea in summer, particularly the starlight reflection in the sea.

The back panel will be silvery-white. When light hits it, tiny blur spots shift dynamically as you move the phone, creating a live "shimmering" visual effect. It sounds subtle on paper, but in person, this kind of effect tends to be a real head-turner.

This is very much in line with Vivo's design philosophy for the S lineup. The brand has a strong history of pushing the envelope from glowing backs to colour-changing panels. The S60 continues that tradition, just with a more refined, nature-inspired approach.

Vivo S60 Key Specifications (Leaked)

Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) shared a detailed breakdown of the S60's hardware. Here's what the phone is reportedly packing:

Display

The S60 will have a 6.59-inch 1.5K screen with rounded edges. This will reportedly be the same display as seen in the Vivo S50 lineup, which is marketed as the V70 / V70 Elite range in India. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The display is crisp, fluid, and well-suited for video playback and regular usage alike.

Performance

The S60 is set to have a processor from the Snapdragon 8 series under its hood. As such, it falls squarely in the nearly-flagsip range, which offers top-notch performance for gaming and multitasking without reaching the cost levels of a flagship device.

Battery Life

It is expected that the battery capacity of the S60 will surpass 7,000mAh. This is huge for a mid-premium smartphone. Combined with the fast 90W charging, you get awesome battery performance throughout the day and much more.

Camera

Here’s where things get exciting. DCS talks about a Sony IMX8 periscope telephoto camera. The Sony IMX882 is probably the name of this sensor. This is a 1/2 inch camera sensor that Vivo typically uses.

We have seen this sensor before in phones like the Vivo X300 FE, X200 FE, T4 Pro, and other devices. Its performance is quite impressive especially in dark situations. When paired with a periscope setup for zooming capability, we can expect an excellent portrait camera from this phone.

Colour Options

As the product manager was concerned about the shiny white version, according to DCS, the phone will also be available in pink. Now comes the exciting bit, which is that there would also be a limited edition phone in association with some Chinese comic book IP.

This is one trend that Vivo always sticks to. Mobile phones from the S brand in China usually come in the Indian market with the V series tag. Take, for example, the S50, which is known as the V70 in India.

If this is anything like the past trends, there is a very high likelihood that the Vivo S60 will also be tagged the Vivo V80 when it gets to the Indian market.

The Vivo S60 seems to be a balanced middle-to-middle-upper-range smartphone. Not only does it have an impressive summer-inspired design but also includes great improvements in terms of hardware such as large battery, flagship-level processor, and periscope lens. The company definitely knows what the target audience expects from them.
