WhatsApp Guest Calling Is Here! Join Video Calls Without an Account
WhatsApp is making voice and video calls more accessible with its new guest calling feature. Users can now invite people without WhatsApp accounts to join calls through a browser, with support for screen sharing, emoji reactions, host approval and up to 32 participants. Here’s everything you need to know about the new feature and upcoming calendar integration.

Meta has come up with a new WhatsApp guest calling feature which enables individuals to attend voice and video calls without the need of having a WhatsApp account. The move aims at improving the calling features of WhatsApp and lifting up one of its limitations that have been there all along. WhatsApp will be able to invite colleagues, students, friends and teachers to attend voice and video calls irrespective of whether they have downloaded the messaging application on their device.
Using the updated features, users of WhatsApp will now be able to generate call links on the Calls page and send out the links to any individual they want to invite to the call. Individuals will then be able to attend the call through the link by using a computer browser of their choice to open it, write down their names and ask to join the conversation.
WhatsApp Guest Calling Focuses on Privacy and Security
However, privacy continues to play a vital role in the use of guest calls on WhatsApp. From the announcement, calls on WhatsApp will still get the advantage of the end-to-end encryption offered by the company, ensuring that conversations will not be easily accessed by any third party. The feature also ensures that there will be no need for the limitation of sessions, allowing people to continue discussing until they have finished what they have to discuss without being forced to end a call just because the time frame is up.
Also, Meta now provides ways for hosts to control the access of guests to the discussion. Unlike regular calls where anyone could easily join a discussion by clicking on a link, with the new guest call features, anyone will only be able to join after they have been given permission to do so.
Guest Users Can Share Screens and Use Reactions
Guest calling using WhatsApp is not supposed to be limited only to voice and video calls. There are a number of in-call functions for guests that include screen sharing, reactions with emojis, and hand-raising. They can make a conversation more interactive and may come in handy when explaining some presentations, discussing study material, or working on a project.
Nevertheless, there are certain limitations for the participants. Firstly, those who do not have any WhatsApp account cannot see the phone numbers of others, cannot exchange messages, and cannot add other participants to the call. This way, a certain boundary is created between regular participants and those using guest calling function.
There is one more thing to note. Only users of WhatsApp can generate the call link and share it with others, while guest users only can join a call according to the invitation sent to them.
WhatsApp Group Calls Support Up to 32 Participants
Moreover, the capability of making group calls with up to 32 participants makes the feature applicable in various scenarios, including small team meetings, group discussions, and family conversations. The fact that people without accounts can use the application is another indication that WhatsApp is becoming more relevant in areas usually dominated by video conferencing applications like Zoom and Google Meet.
The capability to make calls through a computer browser will definitely be of great assistance to people who often move from a smartphone to a computer and vice versa. For instance, a teacher will be able to give out the call link to students. Additionally, a person in a team will be able to invite an external person without forcing everyone to have the same application. The feature will be useful when dealing with clients and freelancers since some may not require constant communication but occasional.
WhatsApp is popular all over the world. This means that the feature will assist current users in communicating with people who do not belong to WhatsApp.
Calendar Integration Is Coming Later This Year
Furthermore, Meta plans to introduce an extension of the capabilities of WhatsApp calls via integration with calendar tools towards the latter part of 2026. This will enable users to schedule WhatsApp calls via Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook using a plugin. In case this update gets delivered as planned, it may become easier to schedule appointments in advance, send out invitations, and keep track of calls along with other scheduled activities.
Integration with calendars will be especially helpful for those individuals who use WhatsApp for business communication purposes but have to resort to other tools to schedule appointments. Instead of setting up a time in one tool and then sending out the link to the call manually, users may be able to do more through the same calendar interface.
In this regard, it should also be noted that this particular update is part of the larger strategy aimed at making WhatsApp even more functional than it was before.
WhatsApp Continues to Expand Its Calling Features
Guest Calling is one of several calling enhancements announced by WhatsApp within the year 2026. Some of the enhancements were made possible by WhatsApp's web calling capabilities which were announced in July 2026. This is an indication that Meta continues to enhance its calling experience on WhatsApp.
Enabling users without WhatsApp accounts to participate in calls will be a big step towards changing the way the service manages calls and invites users to join. In previous instances, users were required to have WhatsApp accounts to participate in any call and this might pose challenges since they might not reach out to other users outside of the platform. The new guest calling feature will allow users who are invited to join calls from their browsers without necessarily having a WhatsApp account.
WhatsApp will now become convenient for users who wish to have quick meetings but do not want every user to download the application. But still, there will be some organizations that will find it convenient to use video conferencing applications due to some advanced functionalities.
One such feature that stands out is the new WhatsApp guest calling that makes voice and video calling easier. This particular feature allows users to call people who do not have a WhatsApp account, invite participants through their browsers, control permissions of the hosts, encrypt messages from end to end, and hold calls with up to 32 people.
In the future, integration with Google Calendar and Outlook is expected, which will make the process even more comfortable in late 2026. As of now, the only important update is that WhatsApp users can invite people to participate in their calls without forcing them to sign up for a WhatsApp account.
