X Down Again! Thousands of Users Report Tweets Not Loading as Elon Musk's Platform Faces Major Outage
Elon Musk-owned X (formerly Twitter) suffered a major outage on July 18, with thousands of users reporting issues such as Tweets not loading, app failures, and server connectivity problems. Here's what happened and how users can troubleshoot the issue.

The Elon Musk-owned social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), faced a major outage on Saturday, July 18, where thousands of users struggled to use the platform efficiently. The outage reports poured in from around the globe as users found themselves struggling with the fact that posts on X did not load, timelines did not refresh, and even the app either crashed or failed to connect to the server.
As per Downdetector, the reports of the outage started coming in at around 3:46 a.m. ET and rapidly rose up in numbers as more and more users began experiencing the problem. As per the maximum number of reports, there were over 1,200 users facing difficulties with X, while later on, it still remained over 1,000.
According to Downdetector data, the downtime had impacted several aspects of the platform instead of just one particular service. 40% of reported cases had something to do with the X mobile app while 25% of the users' feeds weren't loading. At the same time, about 19% of the people were unable to connect to the X servers.
Many of the users faced the problem of posts not loading at all as well as the fact that their timelines were empty no matter how much they tried to refresh the app or website.
The frustration kept growing among users and they began using other social media sites to air their grievances. Many users directly addressed Elon Musk while voicing their displeasure at the continuous technical glitches on X.
A tweet read, "@elonmusk my twitter is down you paid $100 billion to buy X for what? To make it crash every 5 seconds and to make the layout worse."
While users were complaining about their experience, others said that they had seen a new interface being introduced by X with a layout change and even the ability to downvote posts on X. However, the new interface was not something all users could see, and there has been no official confirmation from X about the new interface update.
Though certain individuals have speculated about the possibility of a relationship between the outage and an app or interface update, no such official evidence exists at present regarding the same. X has not issued any statement about the reasons for the outage or if the latest design changes had anything to do with the incident.
Without any clarification from the company, it is not known what led to the outage. In case your device does not load X posts or Tweets, the initial action will be to see if the site is down due to server problems. Otherwise, the following are some basic troubleshooting techniques that one can use.
First, it is important to check your internet connection and close any running Virtual Private Network. In addition, ensure that you have the latest update of X application. When using the website, refresh the page or clean the cache of the browser. On mobile phones, users may clean the cache of the app or even un-install and re-install the application.
However, considering the fact that many users were reporting the same problem at the same time, it is more likely that it was the servers of X causing the problem. Reports show that the number of complaints steadily decreased as time went on, suggesting that the site was slowly stabilizing. Nevertheless, when this article was written, X had not yet recovered completely from the glitch for all users.
At this point, there has been no official statement from the company regarding the glitch and its causes. In the meantime, users who have trouble with the app can check whether it is the result of a large-scale outage.
If you cannot load your X feed, the glitch must be on the part of the platform and should disappear once the servers recover.
