An 8,000mAh battery, a 200MP camera, and a 6.9-inch flat display Xiaomi's new Max flagship looks like its most ambitious phone yet.

Xiaomi has now begun to drop hints about their next major smartphone launch. The Xiaomi 17 Max is due in less than two weeks' time and is all set to be one of the most exciting smartphones to come out of the Android world this year.
The Xiaomi 17 Max has been termed as "a fully upgraded phone" by Xiaomi's own vice president, Lu Weibing, compared to the basic version of the Xiaomi 17. And he is right because this is not just marketing rhetoric but an actual upgrade in hardware.
Key specs of Xiaomi 17

Design
From the teaser shots above, it can be seen that the design language of the device in question takes inspiration from the previous models by Xiaomi that fall under the flagship category. It boasts slim edges, curved edges, and an eye-catching circle-shaped camera lens in the rear.
As per official announcements made by Xiaomi, there will be three colour options available for purchase: black, blue, and white. In some cases, you might even see some devices with a matte ceramic finish or carbon fiber-like look and feel.
One of the defining features of the upcoming model is its flat screen. Recently, most Android manufacturers have switched to such displays and, it seems that Xiaomi did the same with their new model.
Battery
"An 8,000mAh cell would make the Xiaomi 17 Max one of the biggest batteries ever placed inside a mainstream Android flagship."
Flagship handsets from Samsung and Google, on the other hand, are now found between 4,500mAh and 5,000mAh. Xiaomi's own handset, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, also comes with a whopping 7,500mAh battery. For the Xiaomi 17 Max, it could even reach 8,000mAh.
Compared to the standard Xiaomi 17 with its existing 6,330mAh battery, that would be quite an improvement for something that's already very impressive as a smartphone battery for a smaller phone.
And when it comes to power delivery, there's nothing to worry about since it's expected to support 100W wired charging and 50W wireless charging speeds.
Camera
Camera configuration is yet another big improvement in the device. It is expected that Xiaomi 17 Max will have a 200 MP Samsung ISOCELL HP series sensor used for the main rear camera. This is a notable increase compared to three 50 MP sensors featured in the basic Xiaomi 17.
In addition to the above mentioned 200 MP main rear sensor, there will be two additional cameras including a 50 MP ultrawide camera and a 50 MP periscope telephoto camera which has 3x optical zooming capability. The branding by Leica is also expected to continue.
Using the 200 MP sensor will offer Xiaomi more options when it comes to the pixel binning technique as well as capturing more details when the environment lighting is sufficient and crop the photo without any loss of quality.
Performance
Under the hood, it seems that the Xiaomi 17 Max will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor from Qualcomm. It's worth noting that this is the same processor used in the regular Xiaomi 17, which is considered one of the fastest Android smartphones on the market.
For RAM and storage, the most likely options seem to be LPDDR5X and UFS 4.1. These technologies currently represent the fastest standard that can be seen on any Android smartphone. Additionally, there will be an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint reader that performs better than any other technology.
How It Fits in the Xiaomi 17 Lineup
Model | Display | Battery | Main camera | Notes |
Xiaomi 17 | 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED | 6,330mAh | Triple 50MP Leica | Compact flagship, India launch |
Xiaomi 17 Pro | Compact | — | 5x periscope + secondary rear display | China-exclusive, experimental |
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max | 6.9-inch | 7,500mAh | — | Large screen, long battery life |
Xiaomi 17 Max | 6.9-inch 1.5K flat | 8,000mAh | 200MP Samsung ISOCELL | Biggest battery, multimedia focus |
The Xiaomi 17 Max is where Xiaomi goes all out with the hardware. Like the Pro Max, it retains its large display size but improves the battery size even further while adding a high-resolution primary camera sensor. On paper, it seems Xiaomi aims to build a big smartphone that prioritizes battery life and multimedia experiences.
At the base variant, the Xiaomi 17 costs Rs 89,999 in India. The 17 Max is expected to cost more, but no information on pricing is available for now.
The Xiaomi company has yet to announce the official release date for this product, though their teaser campaign indicates that it will be released before the end of May 2026. No official information regarding the dimensions or weight has been released, but with the inclusion of the battery, the device will likely weigh more than the regular model.
So far, three colours have been officially announced, which include black, blue, and white. There may be special material models available using ceramics and carbon fiber-like materials. Xiaomi 17 Max appears to be a large smartphone that prioritizes battery capacity, along with the significant camera improvement. If the 8000mAh battery and 200MP sensor turn out to be reliable, this device will be capable of competing against leading Samsung and iPhone alternatives within the Android platform.
