Xiaomi 17T India Launch Confirmed for June 4

Xiaomi 17T is launching in India on June 4 with the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, Leica-tuned triple cameras, 6500mAh battery, and 67W fast charging support.

Xiaomi 17T

It is time for Xiaomi to introduce new premium smartphones in India as the company announces the release of the Xiaomi 17T on June 4. Although the release of the Xiaomi 17T is scheduled to take place on May 28, when it will be unveiled along with the Xiaomi 17T Pro, the Indian version of the Xiaomi 17T will not have its Pro counterpart. Despite the upcoming release of the smartphone, Xiaomi has already unveiled some of the key features related to the hardware of the gadget.

Equipped with Leica-tuned cameras, 6,500mAh battery, and the Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset by MediaTek, the Xiaomi 17T seems to aim at offering its customers a high-quality gaming and photography experience.

Xiaomi 17T Powered by

One of the major attractions of the Xiaomi 17T is the chipset that powers the device. According to Xiaomi, the phone will come equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra processor. Notably, this chipset has been used in the likes of the POCO X8 Pro and Redmi Turbo 5 phones, which prioritize performance and gaming capabilities.

The Dimensity 8500 Ultra is built using the 4nm architecture, and it consists of eight cores capable of providing efficient power efficiency alongside sustained performance. The processor is expected to efficiently manage demanding games, multi-tasking operations, and even AI-based features on the camera. Since the processor is powering phones known for high frame-rate gaming capabilities and thermal efficiency, expectations from the Xiaomi 17T are fairly high.

However, Xiaomi does not seem to be targeting the same market segment for the 17T that the POCO X8 Pro aims for, despite featuring a similar chipset. While POCO is usually known for building budget-friendly gaming phones, Xiaomi seems to target premium flagship-level users who demand advanced camera hardware.

Battery and Charging

Another vital consideration related to the Xiaomi 17T relates to its battery capacity and charging capabilities. The phone will reportedly be equipped with an impressive 6,500mAh battery and will support fast 67W charging technology.

Today, bigger batteries are becoming more relevant as smartphones' daily use has increased. This is due to the need to play games, watch movies, navigate, take pictures, and record videos constantly during the entire day. The efficient Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, together with such a high-capacity battery, can make the Xiaomi 17T last throughout the day and allow extended periods of use of its display.

As for charging, the 67W fast charger seems like a reasonable choice for the device. Even though some high-end models can charge at the speed of over 100W, 67W fast charging should suffice for most people.

Leica-Tuned Triple Cameras

The collaboration between Xiaomi and Leica continues into the Xiaomi 17T series, with Xiaomi aggressively touting the features of the camera on the upcoming phone.

One of the main camera features for the Xiaomi 17T series is a Leica-tuned three rear camera array, designed to provide better camera performance than most other phones in the same category. Notable among the camera features is the presence of a separate telephoto camera, which is not yet common for phones at this price point.

As noted by Xiaomi, the telephoto camera on the phone will be capable of performing 5x optical zoom, as well as 10x "optical-quality" zoom. This, in turn, allows one to perform portraits, zoom photos, and photos from a distance much better than ordinary digital zoom algorithms.

Typically, Leica's contribution consists in improving color science, processing images, handling contrast, and developing styles in portrait photography. The Leica camera tuning became a unique selling proposition in the Xiaomi premium series, and it seems like the Xiaomi 17T series follows this trend.

Overall, for those looking for premium camera performance without buying flagship phones from the Ultra series, the Xiaomi 17T might be a good choice.

Display Features and Design Details Revealed

Additionally, some specifications have been made public relating to its display prior to its official unveiling. The upcoming Xiaomi 17T will be equipped with various TÜV Rheinland certifications, such as low blue light certification, flicker-free display, and display circadian optimization.

Such certifications aim to help users feel more comfortable when using their phones over long periods of time at night or when playing games and watching content. Considering how smartphones' usage is growing on a global scale, these certifications may turn out to be rather important for customers.

It is expected that the Xiaomi 17T will be equipped with a modern hole-punch screen for its selfie camera. Although Xiaomi has not yet announced any particular information about the screen's size and resolution, it is expected to be equipped with an AMOLED display featuring a high refresh rate.

Xiaomi 17T Pro Not Coming to India

Along with Xiaomi 17T, Xiaomi will also be launching the Xiaomi 17T Pro in the global market. The company, however, seems to have plans for launching Xiaomi 17T Pro only in certain international markets, with India being one of the markets where the new model will not be launched.

According to sources, Xiaomi 17T Pro will be powered by the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chip manufactured using state-of-the-art 3nm technology. Further, it will reportedly come with an even bigger 7,000mAh battery capacity, thus making it a high-end performance-oriented phone.

Although Indian consumers might not get the Pro version, the regular Xiaomi 17T does seem to offer quite a few high-end features.

Expected Price in India

Pricing will play a crucial role in determining how successful the Xiaomi 17T becomes in India. According to current leaks and reports, the smartphone is expected to start at around Rs 59,999.

This pricing places it significantly above the POCO X8 Pro, which currently starts at Rs 34,999 despite using the same Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset.

However, Xiaomi is clearly trying to justify the premium with several upgrades, including:

  • Leica-tuned triple cameras

  • Dedicated telephoto lens with optical zoom

  • Larger 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery

  • Premium display certifications

  • Potentially improved build quality and thermal management

  • More refined flagship-style software experience

That said, buyers who primarily care about raw gaming performance or benchmark scores may still find the POCO X8 Pro to be the more value-oriented choice if real-world performance differences remain minimal.
