Xiaomi 17T is set to launch in India on June 4, and a new leak suggests a starting price of Rs 65,999. The smartphone is expected to feature a Leica-tuned triple camera setup with 5x optical zoom, a 6,500mAh battery, MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, and a premium 120Hz AMOLED display.

The Chinese technology giant has announced the launch of its new high-end smartphone, Xiaomi 17T, in India on June 4. Although the smartphone has already been launched in Europe, details about its pricing in India have emerged. Surprisingly, Xiaomi seems to be going in for an altogether different approach to launching its new smartphone in India compared to what it has adopted in Europe, which would enable Xiaomi 17T to emerge as a tough competitor in the upper mid-range category in India.

The Xiaomi 17T seems to be a smartphone that packs in a host of features not commonly seen together in smartphones priced around the same range. With features such as the camera setup supported by Leica and the presence of a telephoto lens, to mention a couple, Xiaomi seems to be making a bundle out of the new smartphone.
Xiaomi 17T India Price Leaked
Based on credible information from a source within Xiaomi, the company may introduce the Xiaomi 17T in India starting at an initial price of Rs 65,999 for the variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage capacity. Although Xiaomi hasn't provided confirmation about the prices of the upcoming product line yet, this leak shows that the phone is being offered at a price point much lower than that in Europe.
The Xiaomi 17T starts at EUR 749 in Europe, or about Rs 83,000. If true, Indian users will be getting the smartphone much cheaper than those in Europe, putting it in a better position among competitors. The prices also reveal that Xiaomi knows how significant pricing is in India. Even though the Xiaomi 17T is beyond typical mid-tier phones, it is way cheaper than ultra-premium flagships, priced around Rs 1,00,000 in the local market.
While prices for the model with 512GB storage remain unclear at the moment, the same model is available in Europe at a relatively high cost. More information will be known at the launch event scheduled soon.
New Rival in the Upper Mid-Range Segment
If the prices are correct, the Xiaomi 17T would find itself in a very competitive niche. There are already many smartphones of such a price range made by Motorola, Vivo, and Samsung among others, but it seems like Xiaomi has some special features that could make it more attractive for consumers.
Probably the first important feature of this smartphone would be its camera system and its battery. It is well known that people usually have to choose between good batteries and high-quality cameras in the devices of such price. It seems like Xiaomi managed to integrate both of them into one product.
One of the most interesting details about Xiaomi 17T is a telephoto lens with an optical zoom. Telephoto lenses are used mainly in flagship smartphones, which means this smartphone can provide high-quality portrait shots as well as far-shots.
A large 6500mAh battery is another great opportunity that could attract many types of customers, including content creators, travelers, photographers, and power users.
Premium Display
In this regard, it is evident that Xiaomi is still moving forward in the field of display technologies, and its Xiaomi 17T might be yet another example of such advancement.
First of all, there is a 6.59 inches AMOLED screen with 1.5K resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. Thus, the device is expected to provide sharp images, smooth animations, and an overall premium experience for the users who enjoy gaming, watching movies, or scrolling through their social networks.
Moreover, the Xiaomi 17T is able to support HDR10+ and Dolby Vision which means that its users will be able to enjoy high contrast and rich colors when playing with corresponding content. In addition, the phone boasts a complete DCI-P3 color gamut which might come handy for photographers, video editors, and other users looking for accurate colors.
Finally, Xiaomi managed to integrate the display with maximum brightness up to 3,500 nits. Consequently, users might not face problems with reading under bright sunlight anymore. Overall, it might be claimed that the company is targeting at customers enjoying high-quality multimedia consumption.
Processor
Inside, the phone boasts an impressive chipset from MediaTek: the Dimensity 8500 Ultra. Although it does not come with a top-of-the-line chipset, it was created to handle all performance-intensive operations efficiently.
Moreover, this powerful chipset is complemented with 12GB RAM and up to 512 GB of internal storage, providing enough space for various apps, games, and multimedia files.
However, Xiaomi has not stopped at improving the chipset; the manufacturer has decided to improve performance in other ways. First of all, the device features Surge T1 Plus and T1S chips made specifically by Xiaomi, and these are likely to optimize system performance, manage batteries, and handle connectivity issues.
Finally, Xiaomi has also added a 3D IceLoop cooling system to keep the chipset cool while gaming or processing other demanding data. It is becoming more common practice among smartphone producers to use a cooling solution that will provide consistent system performance despite the intense workload of the processor.
Leica Cameras
One of the features most hyped about the Xiaomi 17T has got to be its Leica-enabled camera module. This smartphone comes with a triple-camera system comprising a main 50MP camera, an ultra-wide 12MP camera, and a periscope 50MP telephoto camera lens.
What is worth highlighting about the telephoto lens is that it supports optical 5x zoom; meaning that users will be able to take pictures of distant objects using only optical zoom, rather than depending too much on digital zoom, which tends to reduce picture quality significantly. This is typically a feature associated with flagships and will likely prove to be one of the 17T's greatest strengths.
Other strengths associated with the Leica partnership include better colour tuning, image processing, portrait photography, and overall image quality, as this collaboration has been successful in the past couple of years with Xiaomi's efforts being highly appreciated by fans of photography.
A frontal 32MP camera will also enable users to take selfies and video calls in HD. Overall, the Xiaomi 17T appears to be one of the best phones for photography lovers unwilling to splurge their budget on flagships.
Large Silicon-Carbon Battery with Fast Charging
Another aspect in which Xiaomi seems to have made a statement lies in the battery tech. The Xiaomi 17T boasts a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, an innovation that enables smartphone makers to maximize battery life without having to compromise on the physical dimensions of the gadget.
In practical terms, this means that you can expect to experience long battery life with this smartphone, whether gaming, taking photos, watching videos, navigating using Google Maps, or being productive. Fast charging is provided courtesy of the 67W charging tech that supports rapid battery recharging whenever you need it. Given the above considerations, the Xiaomi 17T may turn out to be among the best battery gadgets of its class.
HyperOS 3 and a Unique Communication Feature
Software-wise, the Xiaomi 17T runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16 out of the box. HyperOS represents Xiaomi's latest vision for a more connected ecosystem, offering tighter integration between smartphones, tablets, wearables, and smart home products.
One particularly interesting addition is Astro Communication. According to Xiaomi, this feature can enable offline communication over distances of up to 1.3 kilometres under certain conditions.
While the exact real-world implementation remains to be seen, the technology could prove useful in emergency situations or areas where traditional network connectivity is unavailable.
Considering all the information shared above, it would seem that the Xiaomi 17T is the most balanced phone by Xiaomi in quite some time. It does not seem to be designed to prioritize any specific category like gaming or cameras; rather, Xiaomi might have built a phone that can excel in more than one area.
With a top-of-the-line AMOLED display, cameras powered by Leica, dedicated telephoto lens, powerful battery, efficient chipset, effective cooling technology, and an excellent software experience, Xiaomi 17T seems to be one heck of a deal on paper.
Provided that Xiaomi delivers good performance in the real world and sticks to the reported price of Rs 65,999, this phone can become a real bargain in the upper mid-range segment. The upcoming months seem to be a great time to wait for the Xiaomi 17T if an upgrade is planned soon.
