Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max Launch Date Confirmed With Huge Batteries and 200MP Cameras

Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are launching in China on September 23 with huge 7,000mAh and 8,500mAh batteries, dual 200MP cameras, Leica imaging, a rear display and HyperOS 4.

Xiaomi is all set to roll out the next-gen flagship series of smartphones in China, but this time, the company is making some changes to its strategy in relation to the Xiaomi 18 series. The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max models will be launched in China on September 23 at 7:00 PM. This event comes right after the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit when the processor manufacturer will announce its new flagship Snapdragon processors.

It should be noted that Xiaomi will not be releasing the Xiaomi 18 vanilla model at the same time as the Pro models. According to reports, the vanilla model will be unveiled sometime during the later part of 2026 or early 2027. This decision by the smartphone maker is quite a contrast to its earlier strategy of unveiling all the flagship series together and is akin to that of Apple’s in its latest iPhone series.

Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max Hardware Confirmed

Xiaomi has already revealed some major specifications related to the hardware of the smartphones. The specifications were announced on September 20, along with the official pictures of both smartphones in black and white colors.

The Xiaomi 18 Pro will have a monstrous 7,000mAh battery, and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will come with an even bigger 8,500mAh battery. This means that the Pro Max will have 1,500mAh larger capacity of the battery compared to Pro, and about 1,000mAh more compared to the last year's Pro Max model.

Leica cameras, extremely thin 0.99mm screen bezels, secondary screen at the back of the smartphones, and the brand new HyperOS 4 operating system will be other features of both smartphones.

Xiaomi 18 Pro Max Gets an 8,500mAh Battery

The battery capacity is likely going to be the biggest selling point of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series. In the Pro Max version, there's an 8,500 mAh battery that is 21 percent bigger than the 7,000 mAh battery in the regular Pro version.

According to Xiaomi, the batteries utilize 32 percent silicon. Compared to the graphite material usually used in anodes, silicon can store much more energy. However, silicon has been challenging to use in significant quantities since it swells and gets degraded when cycled.

In essence, the new batteries will allow the smartphones to offer higher capacity while avoiding making the phone a lot thicker. But even though the battery is 21 percent bigger, that doesn't necessarily mean it will provide 21 percent longer usage. It all depends on the processor, display, software optimization, network usage and user habits.

Even with such impressive battery capacity, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max still aren't going to offer the biggest smartphone batteries available. There are some current smartphones featuring batteries over 11,000 mAh.

Both Phones Will Feature 200MP Cameras

Xiaomi is also focusing on photography to a great extent. In the upcoming Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max, we will have a 200 megapixel main camera along with a 200 megapixel periscope zoom camera.

However, Xiaomi has not yet disclosed the size of the sensors used along with the f-stops used in the cameras. This is significant because two cameras that share the same 200MP resolution can perform quite differently based on other factors as well.

The collaboration with Leica is likely to be crucial to the performance of the camera, although Xiaomi has not disclosed the entire specification of the camera yet.

Xiaomi 18 Pro Series Expected to Use a New 2nm Chip

According to the report, both phones will feature a 2nm platform, but the name of the chipset is yet to be revealed by Xiaomi.

It is worth noting that the timing of the announcement gives us a hint on what is about to happen. On September 22-24, in Hawaii, Qualcomm is set to hold its Snapdragon Summit. It is during the summit that the chipmaker will reveal its new lineup of Snapdragon 8 Elite flagships. Xiaomi plans to announce its new flagships on September 23.

The switch to 2nm process should help improve transistor density and efficiency. An efficient chipset could provide better performance while using less energy, and it would be helpful in combination with the big batteries in Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max.

Rear Display Returns With New Features

Xiaomi is also bringing back the secondary display on the rear of its flagship phones. The feature debuted with the Xiaomi 17 series and will return on the Xiaomi 18 Pro models with some changes.

This year's rear display is larger and sits flush with the camera module, giving the back of the phone a more integrated appearance. Xiaomi is also adding AI-powered features that can generate cards specifically for the rear screen.

Users will reportedly be able to describe what they want, with HyperOS 4 using AI to create suitable cards for the secondary display. This could make the rear screen more useful for personalisation and quick-access information rather than simply serving as a novelty feature.

Xiaomi 18 Pro and Pro Max Price Expectations

However, Xiaomi has not yet disclosed the prices for the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max. But it is possible that the cost of the new models could be even higher than the previous versions.

As an example, the Xiaomi 17 Pro initially launched in China for CNY 4,999. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max was launched in China for CNY 5,999. Although these prices equaled ₹60,000 and ₹72,000 respectively, Chinese prices cannot be used as a reference for Indian prices.

There is also another reason why the price of smartphones could increase. According to the Xiaomi president Lu Weibing, the price of memory increased by approximately CNY 1,500 for a 12GB/512GB smartphone compared to early 2025.

The growing price of memory, as well as other components of smartphones, has already begun to influence the flagship prices. That is why, Xiaomi might experience such cost pressure on its next flagship models.

Xiaomi 18 Pro Series Launch Date

The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max will officially launch in China on September 23 at 7:00 PM local time. Xiaomi is expected to reveal the complete specifications, pricing, configurations and availability details during the event.

The absence of the standard Xiaomi 18 from the launch makes this year's lineup particularly interesting. Xiaomi appears to be adopting a staggered flagship strategy, with the standard model expected later.
