Garmin WhatsApp app

There is good news for Garmin users; so, if you own a Garmin smartwatch, get ready, because Garmin has officially launched a dedicated WhatsApp app for select models. You no longer have to rely solely on read-only notifications for the world's most popular messaging app; instead, this app offers essential messaging features such as viewing chats, sending replies via a built-in keyboard, and managing incoming call alerts.

Garmin announced on Tuesday that WhatsApp is now available for free download from its Connect IQ Store. This marks an expansion of communication capabilities on Garmin wearables, going beyond basic alerts. With this launch, a widely used messaging service has now been added to Garmin's smartwatch lineup.

This is the first third-party messaging app to arrive on Garmin watches. Previously, only notification mirroring was available; now, the level of interaction has improved significantly, as you can not only view notifications but also reply to messages and manage calls directly from your Garmin watch.

That said, it is important to note that this app is not a complete replacement for the phone app; currently, it does not support sending photos or videos, and is best suited for basic messaging and quick replies. This works on all supported models across the Fenix, Forerunner, Venu, and Vívoactive series. This feature requires an Android or iOS smartphone with WhatsApp installed, and the watch must remain connected to the phone via Bluetooth.

Now, let's understand how this app works. First, you need to install the WhatsApp app from the Connect IQ Store. Next, it is essential to keep your smartwatch connected to your phone via Bluetooth. The watch mirrors your phone's WhatsApp; whenever a notification arrives, you can read and reply to it directly from the watch. Furthermore, according to WhatsApp, all chats remain secure with end-to-end encryption. And this feature is available only for personal accounts, not for WhatsApp Business.
