Google Revamps Gemini App With New Logo and Handy Features for Android and iOS Users

Google has officially released a new update of its Gemini app on Android and iPhone, introducing a visual facelift and some significant functional upgrades. The most apparent upgrade is the form of an updated app icon that now matches Google's familiar four-color branding. This refresh is more than superficial It's a step that signifies Google's increased confidence in the Gemini platform and seeks to provide users with a cleaner, smoother experience.

Gemini App With New Logo

New Gemini Logo Ties to Google's Four Colors

The new Gemini app icon now aligns with the recognizable visual language employed throughout Google's suite of apps. It utilizes all four of Google's iconic colors: red, yellow, green, and blue. Blue is still the foreground color, placed on the right, as the other points finish the colorful, symmetrical shape. A gentle gradient has been introduced towards the center-left, recalling the stylized "G" logo adopted for Google itself.

As opposed to the former sharp-edge design, the new icon has rounded edges, giving it a friendlier and contemporary look. The rounded design is also beneficial in terms of visibility when the icons are small, particularly when viewed on home screens where icons get miniaturized. In addition, the new icon occupies more space in the white circular shape, not only giving it more prominence but also increasing the sleek look of your phone's interface.

Symbol of Confidence and Identity

This icon update signifies more than just an aesthetic upgrade it marks Gemini’s integration into the core family of Google products. The use of the four-color scheme suggests that Google is positioning Gemini as a long-term, flagship experience alongside Gmail, Maps, Drive, and other essential services. Despite the color similarity, the sparkle shape of the Gemini icon remains distinct enough to avoid confusion with other first-party apps, preserving its own identity within the Google ecosystem.

Widget Updates on Android

Alongside the new icon, Android users are also getting a redesigned home screen widget. While the iOS widget remains unchanged, Android’s version introduces new shortcuts for Video and Screenshare, directly launching Gemini’s Live modes. These additions make it significantly easier to start real-time interactions without opening the full app, which is a great move toward efficiency and convenience.

Interestingly, the widget has also been made less cluttered. For smaller sizes, one shortcut has been eliminated so the layout remains minimal and easy to navigate. For 3×3 and larger sizes, though, all eight shortcuts are still there: open app (keyboard), voice, Camera, Gallery, Files, Video, Screenshare, and Live. The smart layout puts functionality first without overloading the user.

There is another quiet change in the search bar formerly known as "Ask Gemini," now known as "Gemini." It no longer has a dynamic color background, following a more minimalist visual treatment fitting the overall design.

iOS Version Gains Searchable Chat History

iOS users also have reason to rejoice. As of its recent 1.2025.2562103 release this Wednesday, the Gemini app finally allows iPhone users to search previous chats, echoing the web version of Gemini that already supports this. Users can now view a search bar by tapping the chat icon at the top-left corner of the screen. This lets them easily search for and find past prompts and responses. Interestingly, this search capability is not currently available in Android, but it should make its way to future updates.

App Versions Now Live for All Users

The update is now available to the broader user base on both platforms. Android users can install version 1.0.776555963 of the Gemini app from the Google Play Store. iOS users can check the App Store for the latest version, 1.2025.2562103, which went officially live earlier this week.

This newest update to the Gemini app is not merely a cosmetic makeover it's a significant move forward in Google's overall AI and user experience plan. With the new four-color logo, enhanced Live mode capabilities, streamlined widgets, and search-able chat history, Gemini is becoming a must-have AI assistant for Android and iOS users alike.

Whether you're wanting to find speedy tasks, start up live screen sharing, or simply appreciate a more integrated app environment, the new Gemini experience is designed to deliver. And as Google further develops its generative AI features, we can look for Gemini to be at the center of that vision.
