iPhone 18 Pro Could Be Apple’s Biggest Pro Upgrade Yet With Major Camera, Battery and Design Changes

The company is set to release its iPhone 18 Pro next month, and this time the Pro variants could introduce the biggest changes to the iPhone lineup in recent times. Usually, every other generation of the phone brings subtle changes, but this time things might be different, considering how there are reports about iPhone 18 Pro coming with several big upgrades to its hardware features.

Some leaks have suggested that this time around, the iPhone 18 Pro will come with a bigger main camera lens, variable aperture system, second-generation of the in-house modem by Apple, and a redesigned Dynamic Island. These are just some of the features that will make users think of getting a new iPhone 18 Pro.

iPhone 18 Pro Could Get a Major Main Camera Upgrade

There is an annual upgrade of cameras in iPhones, but upgrades to the main camera have not been common so far. The iPhone 17 Pro had some upgrades made in the front and telephoto cameras, and it is expected that iPhone 18 Pro will also get some upgrades in the cameras.

The report about the upgrade in the main camera of iPhone 18 Pro has come out from the well-known leaker Fixed Focus Digital. As per the leaked report, there will be an increase of more than 2 mm in the aluminum alloy frame of the camera part of the back of the phone.

This increase in size of the frame of the back of the phone has happened because of the increase in size of the main camera. Although an increase in the size of the camera does not appear as an obvious design choice, yet it may point towards something bigger.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has also speculated in the past about the potential for huge hardware upgrades of the iPhone 18 Pro series, some of which could be among the largest in the history of iPhones. The most notable hardware upgrade includes variable aperture, which can allow users more control over the amount of light entering the primary camera.

The use of variable aperture can also help in achieving better performance in photos taken in varying lighting conditions as the aperture size would vary depending on the lighting. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding these specifications yet.

Apple C2 Modem Could Finally Reach the Pro Models

There could also be internal changes in the iPhone 18 Pro, as the company has been steadily cutting down on its reliance on Qualcomm, developing its own cellular modems.

Apple started the shift from Qualcomm modem technology through the introduction of the first generation Apple’s C1 modem in the iPhone 16e and continued the shift with the C1X modem in the iPhone Air. But according to rumors, the iPhones 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and 17 still used Qualcomm’s technology.

But there could be a shift to Apple technology in the new iPhone 18 Pro. Speculations say that Apple plans to use the second generation Apple’s C2 modem in the upcoming Pro series of iPhones.

The decision would not only give Apple more control over its modem technology but would also come with additional features. The new modem would increase power efficiency leading to an increased battery life. It could also come with a privacy feature named “Limit Precise Location” and provide better connectivity in places with poor cell signals.

Apple’s Best Battery Life Yet

There is also scope for significant enhancement in terms of battery life when we consider the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. In the case of the new C2 modem paired with what will presumably be an A20 Pro chip from Apple, there will certainly be greater efficiency and consequently, longer battery life.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max will have some serious battery life too. There have been reports based on regulatory documents that indicate a physical battery which is 10 percent larger than its predecessor.

This would be a significant improvement for a phone that is already known to have good battery life. Coupled with efficiency in chips and modems, it is possible that the iPhone 18 Pro Max may end up being one of the most long-lasting iPhones ever made by Apple.

Dark Cherry Colour

Another area where Apple can continue its experimentation could be the color scheme of Pro-series iPhones. It used to be more subtle with Pro-series models, but it seems like the iPhone 17 Pro introduced a new color called Cosmic Orange.

For the iPhone 18 Pro, Apple is reportedly preparing yet another unusual finish Dark Cherry (or Burgundy).

That would be important because it will be the first time when Apple comes up with a reddish finish for its Pro-series models. And just like with the Cosmic Orange, Apple hopes that it will turn out to be popular among consumers.

The enhanced main camera system, variable aperture feature, Apple's C2 modem, better battery efficiency, increased size of Pro Max's battery, and redesigned Dynamic Island make the new line look interesting.

In addition, the new Dark Cherry color will allow the company to come up with another unique design solution.

Nonetheless, all of the information is based on rumors now. Apple can modify any hardware or add some different specifications and features prior to the official release of its new models.
