Lava Agni 4 Render Reveals Pill-Shaped Camera Design and 7000mAh+ Battery Upgrade

The Indian smartphone industry is going to see yet another power-packed product from a home-grown player Lava. Following the waves it made last year with the Lava Agni 3, which stunned with its space-age secondary rear display and iPhone-esque Action Button, Lava appears to be going a different direction with this year's Lava Agni 4. The fresh renders and leaks by tipster Yogesh Brar through 91mobiles have provided us with a good initial look at the phone and it looks like Lava is going for more practicality and core user experience this time around.

Lava Agni 4

Lava Agni 4 Impressive Design

While the bold design of the Agni 3, with a secondary screen and a curved display, the Lava Agni 4 appears to have a minimalist approach. The most apparent change is the pill-shaped dual-camera module at the rear, which may bring about a sense of nostalgia among the fans of the now-off-the-market LG smartphones that boasted a similar design. In this design, two sensors on either side of an LED flash sit on the camera, and the entire camera housing seems to have a metallic highlight, hinting at a premium construction. The back panel has a plain white finish combined with a robust metal frame, and flat edges a design strategy that appears to be inspired by today's premium design trends.

This change of approach from curves to flat-edge design indicates a move away from visual showiness to one that is tougher and more performant perhaps appealing to a broader audience that values ergonomics and performance over showiness of features.

Display

As far as display, Lava does not appear to be holding anything back. As per the leak, the Lava Agni 4 smartphone will have a 6.7-inch FHD+ screen with a 120Hz refresh rate — identical to what is found on the Agni 3. Although information regarding HDR certification or top brightness is still unclear, having a high-refresh-rate panel implies that the phone will be targeting gamers and multimedia users who need smooth visuals and responsive touch input.

MediaTek Dimensity 8350

The largest improvement in the Lava Agni 4 is likely to be the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chip. This chip is based on the 4nm manufacturing process and supports a 3.35GHz peak clock speed. In comparison to the Agni 3's Dimensity 7300X, this would be a major improvement in raw processing power, efficiency, and thermals.

The Dimensity 8350 also boasts UFS 4.0 storage, which would imply flagships-class read/write speeds and generally quicker system responsiveness. If Lava pairs this with LPDDR5X RAM, the Agni 4 might be among the highest-performance devices at its projected price bracket.

Pricing Expectations

Although there is no official confirmation on the price yet, the speculated hardware and Lava's usual value-for-money strategy hint at the Agni 4 possibly being priced below ₹25,000 in India. If that is the case, the phone might be a major threat to iQOO, Realme, and Vivo in the mid-range segment.

Dual 50MP Cameras

Camera-wise, the Lava Agni 4 is rumored to sport a dual 50MP camera setup. While the dual-sensor configuration might appear to be a downgrade compared to the Agni 3's triple-camera array which included a 50MP main sensor with OIS+EIS, an 8MP telephoto, and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor it's important to wait for the complete specifications and feature list before jumping to conclusions.

Lava can possibly tune the new 50MP sensors for better image processing, low-light photography, or AI capabilities. If executed properly, the dual-camera configuration may still provide a similar or even superior experience in actual use.

Battery Beast Mode

Maybe the most thrilling feature of the Lava Agni 4 is its enormous battery boost. The new smartphone will reportedly come with a 7,000mAh+ battery, which will be one of the biggest capacities in the Indian market. As of now, the Vivo T4 and iQOO Z10 are at the top with their 7,300mAh battery, and both of them are priced in the same segment. If Lava is able to match or surpass that figure, it will become a battery king in the sub-₹25,000 price segment.

For comparison, the Lava Agni 3 had a 5,000mAh battery with 66W fast charging. The expected leap to a much bigger battery could slow charging speed slightly unless Lava brings in higher wattage charging technology as well. For users that value multi-day battery life, though, this would be a huge improvement.

Launch Timeline and What to Expect

Although Lava has not yet officially announced the release date for the Agni 4, rumors are that it may not be long. Since the Agni 3 was launched in October 2023, Lava may stick to the same annual refresh schedule. That being said, considering leaks are already out and there is hype on the internet, a pre-festive season launch may be on the horizon.

We should anticipate Lava launching additional official teasers and information in the next few weeks, potentially showing off the software experience, camera features, and battery life.

From what we’ve seen so far, the Lava Agni 4 seems to be a well-balanced successor. While it may ditch the novelty of a secondary display and triple camera system, it focuses instead on performance, battery life, and a refined design philosophy. By retaining essentials like a 120Hz display and upgrading the SoC and battery, Lava seems to be streamlining its priorities to offer maximum value to Indian consumers.

As a budget flagship with the expected price of below ₹25,000 and a priority for essentials such as performance and battery life, the Lava Agni 4 may well become a serious player in the budget flagship market.
