OPPO Reno 16 Series Launches With Massive Batteries, 200MP Cameras, and Flagship-Level Features

OPPO has officially launched the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro in China with larger batteries, premium camera hardware, and upgraded MediaTek processors. The lineup features 200MP cameras, 120Hz OLED displays, IP69 ratings, and an expected India launch in the coming months.

OPPO Reno 16 Series

Finally, we get the latest additions to OPPO's popular Reno line. This time, OPPO seems to really emphasize battery endurance, cameras, and overall build quality. OPPO recently revealed the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro, officially launching them for the Chinese market, with larger batteries, improved MediaTek processors, and improved photography, but not reaching top-of-the-line pricing.

Whereas previous Reno handsets were built with aesthetics and photography capabilities in mind, the new Reno 16 line brings in more than just these features; a high-capacity battery is part of the package, with the Reno 16 Pro sporting a mammoth 7,000 mAh.

The announcement of these new devices also signals their impending international release, with India being one of the potential launch countries outside of China.

OPPO Reno 16 Series Focuses on Bigger Batteries and Better Efficiency

Battery life is undoubtedly among the key features that stand out in the new OPPO Reno 16 range. While the regular Reno 16 comes with a big 6,700mAh battery, its Pro version takes things to another level with the incorporation of a whopping 7,000mAh battery. This is a clear improvement from the earlier Reno line of phones, whose battery was 6,500mAh.

As many smartphones manufacturers introduce 7,000mAh batteries in their mid-range phone ranges, OPPO's move here seems like a good compromise because it combines the large batteries with power-efficient OLED screens and efficient MediaTek processors.

While the regular Reno 16 charges at speeds of up to 80W when plugged, the Reno 16 Pro not only comes with an 80W wired charger but also offers 50W wireless charging capacity. Wireless charging technology continues to remain quite rare among mid-range smartphones. So including wireless chargers in the Reno 16 Pro range could prove to be appealing for some premium buyers.

However, the efficiency with which ColorOS manages the background functions, refresh rate, and thermal regulation of the phones will determine real-life battery experience. On paper, the OPPO Reno 16 appears geared towards users seeking a full day or more worth of performance.

OPPO Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro Display Details

Both smartphones get OLED panels with a nice refresh rate and an incredibly bright display from the manufacturer. The regular Reno 16 comes with a small 6.32 inches flat OLED display offering 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness up to 3,600 nits. On the other hand, the Pro version receives a larger 6.78 inches OLED display but with identical specifications for the refresh rate and peak brightness.

It is good to mention that both displays get support for 10-bit color depth, something that has become crucial for better HDR video playback. With brighter displays, visibility becomes improved even in direct sunlight exposure. The funny thing is that OPPO seems to continue using a flat-screen solution in their regular smartphone variant, something that users have been requesting more often.

MediaTek Chipsets Power the Reno 16 Lineup

On the inside, the Reno 16 series receives new MediaTek chipsets that are meant to improve multitasking and gaming experiences, along with offering enhancements in AI performance. For the basic Reno 16 smartphone, the chipset used will be the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super, while the Reno 16 Pro will feature the better performing MediaTek Dimensity 9500s processor.

While not flagship-level processors, the new Dimensity 8550 Super and Dimensity 9500s chips from MediaTek will offer great performance when it comes to gaming, photo editing, and running applications. Indeed, MediaTek has come up with some great chips over the years, and based on the confidence of OPPO, the company continues to use them in their Reno series.

Cameras

Continuing OPPO’s tradition of having a “camera first” philosophy, the Reno 16 lineup is packing exactly the same set of rear cameras.

Both models boast the following cameras:

  • 200MP Samsung HP5 primary shooter

  • 50MP ultra wide-angle sensor

  • 50MP periscope zoom telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom

This combination looks very much like the previous Reno 15 Pro lineup, however, OPPO should be working more on improving their software capabilities as well.

The periscope zoom telephoto is particularly valuable since the ability to use actual zoom in photography has become one of the main factors separating premium smartphones from budget alternatives. Many competitors in this price bracket still have simple macro or depth sensors rather than real zoom cameras.

As for the selfie camera, OPPO equipped both handsets with a 50MP autofocus selfie camera great news for all those that are going to shoot some videos and participate in video chats online or just post selfies on social media.

Provided that the company will manage to improve image quality, Reno 16 will become one of the best camera smartphones in the upper mid-range class.

Premium Features Continue Across Both Models

Beyond the cameras and batteries, OPPO is also including several flagship-style features across the Reno 16 lineup.

Both devices come with:

  • IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings

  • Stereo speakers

  • NFC support

  • ColorOS 16 based on Android 15

The Reno 16 Pro also gets Wi-Fi 7 support, while the standard model sticks with Wi-Fi 6.

The extensive water and dust resistance ratings are particularly impressive because they suggest improved durability against both submersion and high-pressure water exposure. That level of protection is still uncommon in many phones within this segment.

Though the Reno 16 series has not yet been rolled out anywhere outside China, indications are quite strong for a possible India launch in the near future. A device belonging to the Reno 16 range and sporting the model number CPH2865 is already listed in the BIS certification website, which indicates a possible Indian launch soon.

According to industry speculation, a June-July timeframe looks quite realistic for the global launch of the series, and India may be included within the scope of the global launch. With OPPO having been able to offer competitive pricing for its phone range, good software support, and camera optimisations, chances of people being attracted towards the Reno 16 series look bright.

For those who have been using the older Reno range of phones and have problems with the battery draining too fast, the Reno 16 range may finally come as a welcome upgrade.
