The first-ever product from Philips will enter the Indian smartphone market on September 2. It comes with 120Hz display, 64MP camera, 5G support, up to 8GB RAM, and 256GB internal storage. The price range is expected to be less than Rs 20,000.

Philips has finally decided to join the smartphone fray in India, and the company has announced that its first smartphone here will hit the stores come September 2. It is interesting how Philips is making a comeback to the mobile industry where it is already familiar to the Indian consumers for its consumer electronics range.
As per reports, the upcoming Philips smartphone will be targeting the sub-Rs 20,000 range, which has become a very competitive range in the recent times. As many brands are positioning their smartphones at more expensive prices, Philips might try to appeal to those customers who prefer new features without compromising on the budget.
Philips Smartphone Launching in India on September 2
Philips has already announced several of its new smartphone specifications before the official launch of the device. The smartphone is believed to come equipped with an HD screen and 120Hz refresh rate, making the scroll and animations smoother than in case of the ordinary 60Hz screens.
Speaking of the photography capabilities, it is known that the smartphone will be equipped with a 64MP main camera and a 16MP front camera. Although megapixels are not the only criterion for determining camera capabilities, this information indicates that Philips intends to release an attractive option comparable to other budget and mid-range smartphones currently available in India.
Furthermore, it was reported that the smartphone will have two different options for RAM (6GB and 8GB), while there will be 128GB and 256GB storage options.

5G Connectivity
One of the most prominent aspects of the upcoming Philips phone will be 5G connectivity. It could give Philips an edge over other companies, considering how affordable phones in the market still have 4G hardware despite the availability of more advanced features in other gadgets.
The inclusion of 5G, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage makes the phone an attractive choice for customers seeking future-proof hardware at a much cheaper rate. Nevertheless, the competitiveness of the phone will mostly depend on the chipsets, battery capacity, charging speed, and price, which have not been disclosed by the company yet.
Stereo Speakers and IP64 Rating Confirmed
Philips also stresses the multimedia and robustness capabilities of the smartphone. It will be fitted with stereo speakers, which the company markets with the name “Ultra Max.” Stereo speakers may become an attractive feature for customers who often view videos, listen to music and consume other multimedia content right from their device.
Furthermore, the smartphone will be awarded the IP64 protection certificate, meaning that it will provide protection against dust and water splashes. This might not be the same level of protection that is provided by premium IP-certified phones but remains quite beneficial for an affordable phone.
The smartphone is being advertised with the slogan “Innovation You Can Trust.” However, Philips has not released any official information about the name of the smartphone and its Indian price yet.
Who Is Bringing Philips Smartphones to India?
The smartphones for India from Philips will be marketed through Zenotel India, which offers Philips smartphones and feature phones in its mobile product line. The marketing strategy for the company seems to be using its global brands with local expertise, and currently Philips branded feature phones are available in India.
This might help Philips get a slight advantage against other unknown brands of smartphones, but Philips needs to do much more to create an identity for itself in India's smartphone market.
However, there has never been a more difficult period for affordable mobile phones than now. Mivi, Fire-Boltt, and AI+ are some of the newer companies venturing into the budget smartphone segment. Meanwhile, Micromax too has been considering a potential comeback in the market.
On the other hand, with the rising prices of RAM and storage space, it has become difficult for smartphone makers to offer affordable phones with high specifications. The entry and budget smartphone segments have been among those hardest hit by this pricing problem as consumers have to pay more for hardware previously offered at cheaper prices.
This may work to the advantage of Philips. A well-known consumer electronics company offering competitive specs can attract many customers willing to go for an alternative option.
Pricing
Although Philips has an edge in being familiar to consumers, this is not enough to ensure success. India’s smartphone industry is comprised of companies that have ample expertise in hardware, software, distribution channels and customer support services.
In the case of Philips, the price will play the key role because if the company succeeds in keeping the price of the smartphone below Rs 20,000 while providing features like 5G support, 120Hz screen, 64MP camera, stereo speakers and generous memory options, it can generate some buzz around its smartphone.
The company will also need to provide reliable software and develop a network of after-sales services in order to make its first smartphone the first step towards becoming a full-fledged entrant into India’s mobile industry.
Philips Smartphone India Launch
The Philips mobile phone is slated for official launch in India on September 2, where its name, full specs and pricing are to be announced. Till now, the presence of a 120Hz panel, 64MP rear camera, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, 5G, stereo speakers and IP64 water resistance provides the mobile phone with an intriguing foundation.
But, most importantly, pricing can determine whether or not the Philips mobile phone is successful or not in India. With fierce competition in the Rs less than 20,000 segment of the market, Philips will have to do more than just rely on their brand name to succeed in the market.
