Apple's upcoming iOS 27 update could bring the biggest Siri redesign ever, featuring Dynamic Island integration, ChatGPT-like conversations, Gemini and Claude support, AI-powered search, camera intelligence, smarter shortcuts, and advanced photo editing tools.

For quite some time now, Apple has been promoting Siri as an intelligent virtual assistant that can assist users in navigating their iPhones with greater ease. Yet, while Apple's competitors, including Google and Samsung, quickly jumped on the bandwagon of using AI and conversation agents, Siri seemed to lag behind. Even though Apple was promoting a smarter version of Siri at the start of 2024, along with the new version of the operating system iOS 18, the majority of the expected innovations seem not to have made it into the user's hands yet. And thus, for the last two years, millions of iPhone users have been awaiting a truly intelligent AI agent.
All this is about to change soon, however.
As the much-anticipated World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) approaches for Apple in June, there has been another new report from Bloomberg, giving a detailed idea about what can turn out to be the largest overhaul of Siri by Apple in its entire existence. The report contains a number of illustrations made from the information gathered by Bloomberg's reporters from various sources close to the company. Though Apple has not made any confirmation about the mentioned changes, and the final software might not look like the leak images, the reported modifications imply that iOS 27 can turn Siri from being just a voice assistant into an AI platform that can go head to head against ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude.
Siri Is No Longer Just an Assistant
The biggest change that iOS 27 is said to introduce is its total revamp of the Siri user experience. In place of the current feature which appears as an overlay on what people are currently using their phones for, Siri will now be permanently built into the operating system itself.

In keeping with Bloomberg's design, Apple will embed Siri right into the Dynamic Island. It is clear that this will make using Siri more natural while also leveraging the most well-known part of the iPhone UI.

Reportedly, users would still trigger Siri using the traditional ways, including by using the word "Siri" and by pressing the power button. But unlike before, when Siri would take up the whole screen space, Siri would answer through an animatable interface inside the Dynamic Island. In this way, users would be able to see things on their devices while interacting with the AI.

It is clear that with this update, Apple wants to present Siri as a natural companion and not another app on its devices. Moreover, the AI's integration into Apple's systems mirrors trends in AI development in which the AI assistant stays available all the time through the operating system.
A New “Search or Ask” Experience
Undoubtedly, one of the most exciting introductions is the entirely new UI known as “Search or Ask.”
According to Bloomberg’s sources, users will be able to access this UI by swiping down from the top center of their screens. This new feature looks like an attempt to combine regular searching and artificial intelligence (AI) assistants into one place rather than keeping these experiences separate as in the case of Spotlight Search.
It is expected to include a black search bar with some nice animated graphics inspired by Apple’s design style of WWDC. Notably, based on the leaked screenshots, this UI looks dark even for the devices with Light Mode on.
However, what really sets this Search or Ask feature apart is the potential for it to function as a hub from which all other actions can be taken. Instead of having to open up different apps, users would be able to search for information and take actions from within the Search or Ask feature.
It seems that users will also be able to execute tasks within the Search or Ask feature such as adding events to the calendar, sending messages, using shortcuts, accessing apps, searching the web, and even getting assistance from AI. These results will show up in information cards that pop out from the Dynamic Island.
This would allow users to interact with all their information and functions right from the same screen, making their interaction with the iPhone more efficient.
Apple Could Turn Siri Into an AI Hub With ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude Support
One of the major concerns about Apple's approach to AI has been its somewhat closed environment compared to other companies. But according to a Bloomberg report, Apple seems to be planning a paradigm shift.

According to Bloomberg, Apple will allow users to pick different third-party AI assistants by integrating them into Siri. It will be done using a simple dropdown menu, giving people the choice to pick which AI model will handle the requests via the Search or Ask feature.
Apple has a deal with OpenAI and uses ChatGPT within the context of Apple Intelligence. Bloomberg, however, claims that Apple has also tried implementing Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude models.
It will be a revolutionary step. As opposed to users being forced to use only Apple’s AI technology, Siri can become a bridge connecting users to the most suitable AI models for their needs. Be it creative writing, coding, images analysis, research, or reasoning, users might end up having access to multiple AI tools via the iOS system.
This would immediately put Siri on par with Android phones that feature highly integrated Gemini AI.
Siri App Could Finally Bring ChatGPT-Like Conversations to iPhone
Other than the system-level integration, Apple is rumored to be working on a dedicated Siri app, which will be similar to contemporary AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
It will incorporate an updated interface, which will feature conversation history, text input capability, speech-based interaction, and support for multimedia inputs. Users would be able to carry on old conversations, access past chat history, and hold conversations over a prolonged period of time. This would mark a drastic improvement from the current state of affairs when Siri is unable to keep track of contexts between multiple queries.
Users may also be able to upload photos, screen shots, documents, and files to get analyzed by the AI engine. The app would enable people to query the AI with regard to visuals, summarize document content, get an analysis of a particular content, and more. In this respect, the app design would resemble much the way things work on other platforms at present.
AI-Powered Camera Features
Apparently, Apple's AI aspirations stretch much further than Siri. According to Bloomberg, the Camera app might acquire its own AI feature, which will allow users to take pictures of something and immediately send those photos to AI-powered programs for evaluation. Such functionality would work like Google Lens, identifying various things from objects, buildings, plants and animals, to text.

Reverse search abilities could be integrated into the Camera app as well, which would help people learn more about their photo subjects. Besides, Apple is apparently working on reworking the interface of the Camera app to let users customize and have more professional features.
With the evolution of mobile phones' cameras, AI software becomes increasingly essential. Apple appears to be trying to stay in the race in terms of the latter.
Photos App Could Receive Powerful AI Editing Tools
Photos app is also likely to receive some major AI updates. According to rumors, these will include the abilities of "Reframe" and "Extend," which will be able to change the composition of the photo and add content around it using AI.
Such capabilities will resemble the ones that can currently be found on Google Pixel phones and a number of other Android handsets. Thus, people will have the ability to change the size of their cropped photos, tweak the way they look without re-taking pictures, and experiment with different compositions without any need for advanced knowledge of photo processing.
It is believed that Apple is developing natural language photo editing, where users can give commands by typing things like "delete the person in the background," "brighten up the sky," or "extend the photo to match wallpaper size."
This may greatly ease photo editing for regular people.
Shortcuts App May Become More Powerful Than Ever
Whereas advancements in AI image generation and chatbots seem to be the norm in the news these days, there seems to be one major improvement that will soon hit iOS. Right now, creating complex automations involves constructing workflows through different actions and conditions. According to Bloomberg, Apple is reportedly developing a feature whereby automations can be built using natural language.
So instead of building these complex automations manually, Siri would understand what the user wants and generate the appropriate automation. This sort of implementation of AI has the ability to greatly reduce time spent by the user while simultaneously making complex automations easy for everyone to create.
Apple Is Finally Catching Up in the AI Race
The changes in iOS 27 that were stated indicate something critical – Apple is trying very hard to catch up with its competition when it comes to AI technology.
Google's Pixel phones and Samsung's Galaxy have been implementing advanced AI for the last few years in such forms as translation services, image editing, context awareness, and even multimodal search. Although Apple has access to many more resources and has a lot of advantages due to its ecosystem, the company has always been very conservative about AI implementation.
Based on these rumors and leaks, it seems like Apple doesn't just want to copy what its competitors do but wants AI to become integrated into the core of the operating system. As opposed to creating a separate application for AI, Apple wants intelligence implemented across Siri, Search, Camera, Photos, and navigation. Should Apple make its intentions come true, iOS 27 will definitely be among the best updates for iPhones ever.
With WWDC approaching, there is still much speculation about what is going to be presented in terms of AI strategies from the technology giant. Although the examples presented by Bloomberg can hardly be called officially confirmed due to their basis in the leak and insider data, they still depict an image of a company that is finally ready to redesign its Siri to keep up with the progress made in this sector of technologies.
From integrating Dynamic Island features to introducing the new Search or Ask feature along with supporting such models as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude, Apple seems ready to make its AI product relevant in the context of the contemporary AI market.
While the long wait of iPhone users for Siri to become a more intelligent solution is coming to its end at last, WWDC 2026 may indeed turn out to be the moment when Siri finally changes.
