Blackmagic Design Rolls Out DaVinci Resolve 20.1 with Apple Immersive Video Support for Pro-Level Editing

Blackmagic Design has officially released DaVinci Resolve 20.1, an important update for its macOS users that adds full support for Apple Immersive Video workflows. The update represents a significant leap forward for content creators, filmmakers, and video editors who need to create high-end immersive experiences without hassle. Whether developing cinematic VR productions or interactive media, the new DaVinci Resolve 20.1 makes it simpler than ever before to produce, edit, and deliver 3D immersive material without ever having to leave the system.

DaVinci Resolve 20.1

Perhaps the most exciting feature in DaVinci Resolve 20.1 is the support to edit, color grade, and apply visual effects to Apple Immersive Video projects, particularly those shot with the brand-new Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera. This innovative workflow allows creators to work with immersive content using the same familiar tools that are applied to regular 2D projects, providing a seamless learning curve for experienced DaVinci Resolve users. Directors can now combine Spatial Audio with video editing, offering a one-stop solution for immersive storytelling.

Immersive Video Viewer and Streaming on Apple Vision Pro

The software also introduces a completely new immersive video viewer that enables editors to pan, tilt, and roll 3D clips in real-time on a 2D screen. This is especially useful for fine-tuning framing and adjusting views without having to use a VR headset for each adjustment. However, for those working in full immersive mode, support has been added for DaVinci Resolve 20.1 to stream immersive video directly to Apple Vision Pro for real-time editing feedback. This means that people will be able to preview and perfect their immersive content exactly as viewers will experience it.

New Edge Mask Tool and Spatial Audio Enhancements

In order to further fine-tune immersive editing, Blackmagic Design has added an Edge Mask tool to the 3D palette. This is meant to eliminate unwanted elements on the edges of a frame typical in immersive video making it simpler to have visual consistency. The new spatial audio editor also allows sound designers to have more control during the mixing of immersive audio tracks for a compelling hearing experience that complements the 360° visuals.

Exclusive to DaVinci Resolve Studio

Though the DaVinci Resolve 20.1 update adds state-of-the-art immersive video tools to the platform, it's important to mention that these tools are exclusive to the paid DaVinci Resolve Studio version, which costs $295. This renders it an upscale investment for professionals who need to utilize Apple Immersive Video workflows but could be well worth it for studios and creators that create next-generation video experiences.

With DaVinci Resolve 20.1, Blackmagic Design confirms that immersive video editing is now no longer a niche test it's turning into a mainstream production pipeline. From editing and grading to spatial audio mixing and Apple Vision Pro support, this release raises the bar for professional immersive content creation on macOS. For filmmakers who want to be at the forefront of the industry, this release provides a powerful and future-proofed toolkit.
