Disney Plus Suffers Major Global Outage as Thousands of Users Report Login Issues

Disney+ suffered a major global outage that prevented thousands of users from logging in. The streaming service has since restored access, though the cause remains unknown.

The problem started on Thursday evening, during which many of the subscribers could not access the streaming service due to a major outage. It was clear from the start that users were concerned about their inability to access the stream, so many people turned to social networks and outage trackers to check if the same thing happened to others as well.

According to the Downdetector website, reports about the problem started coming in around 6:40 p.m. ET. In less than an hour, more than 20,000 people in the United States alone have filed a complaint about the streaming service. Most of the complaints are about failed logins, but other complaints can be heard as well.

The majority of subscribers who tried logging into their accounts received various error messages that prevented them from entering and viewing the content. While the number of complaints kept growing, people started discussing the possible reasons for such outage; however, Disney did not announce any information on what had led to the problem.

The problem was announced by Disney on its official account called Disney+ Support on X (previously Twitter). The announcement came at 8:49 p.m. ET.

“We’re currently investigating issues affecting login for some users and hope to have this resolved soon,” the Disney+ Support account stated. “Thank you for your patience!”

In addition to that, the technical support team replied to many user complains about the outage with an apology for the inconvenience and asked people to contact the feedback system at Disney+ while the engineers were trying to solve the problem.

The timing of the outage also made many people concerned, since Disney+ works as a broadcaster for the games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in South America. Luckily, there is no threat for the fans in South America, because no matches with participation of Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay were scheduled during the outage. Still, some people expressed their concerns before the Mexico vs. South Korea match, which was supposed to start at 9:00 p.m. ET.

Disney finally released information about the problem being solved after several hours of investigation and complains from users. At 10:06 p.m. ET the company stated that all Disney+ services had been restored and now the users could login again.

Even though it is confirmed that the outage has been sorted out, it is still unknown what caused the problem in the first place. One thing is certain – it is either a problem with the servers of the platform, authentication process, or any other technical issue.

As this event shows, many people around the world use streaming platforms as a source of entertainment as well as live sports streams. In spite of the fact that Disney managed to fix the problem quickly enough, it received a lot of online attention due to the problems streaming platforms experience when trying to provide continuous access to their service.

It seems that for now everything is fine on Disney+, and people who experienced the problem earlier can continue streaming as usual.
