Google has expanded its 'Search Live' feature in India, adding support for several new Indian languages. This marks a significant step toward making AI-powered search more accessible and inclusive. Previously, this feature part of Google's AI mode in Search was limited to English and Hindi; however, it now includes support for languages such as Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, and Malayalam. The primary objective of this update is to simplify the search experience for users who prefer to search by speaking in their native language rather than typing.

Support for New Indian Languages
With the latest update, users can now ask questions simply by speaking in their preferred language such as Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, or Bengaliand Google Search will provide responses in that very same language. The objective of this expansion is to cater to the needs of India's linguistically diverse population, enabling users to utilize search in their language of choice. Consequently, it is no longer necessary to frame queries exclusively in English or Hindi to conduct a search; in a country like India, where people frequently converse in multiple languages, this feature is set to prove highly beneficial.
How Search Live Works
Users need to open the Google App and tap on the Live option. They can then ask questions directly by speaking. This experience feels like a conversation. You can also ask follow-up questions after asking a question without having to repeat everything again.
Camera support is also available.
In addition to voice, Search Live also incorporates camera-based inputs; users can ask questions by pointing their phone camera at an object. The feature provides answers based on what it visually detects. This is a highly useful feature for everyday use. This combination of audio and visual interaction is designed to deliver more context-aware and relevant results.
Based on the Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model
This feature is powered by Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash Live model, which is designed to process voice inputs in real-time and provide contextually relevant responses across multiple languages. The feature operates seamlessly even when the language is switched mid-conversation; in India where people often converse in Hinglish or mixed languages this will prove to be particularly useful.
Rollout Details
This feature is being made available in India on both Android and iOS platforms via the Google App. The rollout is being conducted in a phased manner; therefore, it may take some time to reach all users. This expansion reflects Google's focus on enhancing the accessibility and ease of use of AI-based tools in India, and establishes Search Live as a key component of Google's evolving search ecosystem.
