OPPO Reno 16 Review Is This the Best Camera Phone Under ₹62000

Read our in-depth OPPO Reno 16 review covering design, display, camera, performance, gaming, battery life, and verdict. Find out whether the OPPO Reno 16 5G is worth buying at ₹61,999.

OPPO Reno 16

OPPO has officially released the OPPO Reno 16 5G in India, adding another premium variant to its existing Reno line-up. This is because, just like its other models from the line-up, the Reno 16 is designed to look aesthetically pleasing and offer an experience centered on the camera, and there is no question about that. With the phone available at a price tag of ₹61,999, the hype surrounding it is understandable given its flagship-level competition.

We have had almost two weeks of hands-on experience with the OPPO Reno 16 as our main smartphone. Here's our full review that will make things easier for you to choose this phone for yourself.

OPPO Reno 16 Design

OPPO Reno smartphones are known for their excellent aesthetic design, and the OPPO Reno 16 smartphone does not disappoint in this regard. It uses the new OPPO 3D Pop Planet Design, and the OPPO smartphone we received was in Starry White color.

However, the outstanding feature of the OPPO Reno smartphone is its holographic technology called HoloVerse 3D Optical Technology. The OPPO Reno has numerous micro-lenses under the glass back panel that create an optical illusion by reflecting light in different angles to create the illusion of a three-dimensional object. The surface of the back panel looks like an ordinary finish but in reality, it is not, giving the phone a unique look and identity.

The OPPO Reno smartphone is also available in Stellar Purple and Twilight Violet colors for those who prefer more reserved colors. The rear camera module is rectangular and fits perfectly into the design. The rounded edges enhance ergonomics while the power and volume keys are conveniently located.

Moreover, with an IP69K rating and an aerospace-grade aluminum frame construction, the Reno 16 is not only durable but protected from dust and water, including even high pressure and high temperatures of water. Although it's not waterproof, as a camera under water, the resistance level is really impressive.

Conclusion on the Design: Stylish, compact, premium, and very durable – the Reno 16 is definitely one of the best-looking smartphones of its class.

OPPO Reno 16 Display

As smartphones continue to get bigger and bigger, OPPO decided to go in a different direction with the Reno 16, which features a 6.32-inch AMOLED panel. This device is perfect for you if you like using small phones that can be operated with a single hand.

The display features a 2640 × 1216 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 3600 nits of peak brightness. Very thin bezels around the display make videos and games very immersive regardless of the size of the device.

The AMOLED panel features deep black levels, bright and vivid colors while maintaining great contrast. Moreover, colors are never oversaturated, creating a very realistic experience.

Netflix, YouTube, HDR, or anything else – the display handles all of this without any trouble. Even outdoors it works perfectly; it's still comfortable to read texts and browse social networks in direct sunlight.

Display Verdict: Reno 16 demonstrates that small displays don't have to be bad displays. One of the best in its class.

OPPO Reno 16 Camera

The camera has always been the strongest selling point of the Reno series, and OPPO has once again delivered an impressive photography package.

The smartphone features four 50MP cameras, including:

  • 50MP Sony LYT600 Main Camera

  • 50MP 3.5x Telephoto Camera

  • 50MP Ultra-Wide Camera

  • 50MP Front Selfie Camera

However, the Reno 16 really comes into its own when it comes to daylight photography. Pictures are crisp and detailed, with true-to-life colors. While most of today’s smartphones try to enhance saturation in order to produce "social media worthy" pictures, the Reno 16 strives for realism.

The HDR functionality is outstanding, allowing you to keep both the highlights and shadows of your picture while avoiding any unrealistic effect. Color consistency is very good when switching from one camera to another, providing a seamless photography experience.

Speaking about Portrait mode, it stands out due to good edge detection and natural skin colors. Also, the 50MP front camera is outstanding in terms of quality, giving you detailed and balanced selfies. Its 100 degrees field of view make group selfies much easier.

As for night photography, the Reno 16 does a great job controlling image noise while using Night Mode to increase sharpness and details while keeping the natural look of the pictures. It avoids over-saturating every single picture.

OPPO also includes several AI-powered photography tools, including:

  • AI Portrait Glow

  • AI Remix Collage

  • AI Motion Photo Slow-Mo

  • AI Eraser

  • Popout 2.0

  • Pop Cam

These features make editing and creative photography much more enjoyable.

Camera Verdict: If photography is your top priority, the OPPO Reno 16 is easily among the strongest camera smartphones available in this price segment.

OPPO Reno 16 Performance

The OPPO Reno 16 is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor, built on a 4nm architecture and paired with LPDDR5X RAM and an Adreno 722 GPU.

Daily usability wise, the Reno 16 offers a highly optimized and responsive performance. All activities from multitasking to social media, video streaming, taking photos, and using productivity apps are performed seamlessly.

Nonetheless, when considering its ₹61,999 price point, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 seems underwhelming. There are several other smartphones that are available at the same price and offer much better processing capabilities.

OPPO’s AI HyperBoost 3.0 Technology will optimize the CPU, GPU, and system while working on heavy tasks for better stability but not processing speed.

Performance Verdict: Very well-optimized performance, but it does fall short when compared to flagship performance.

Gaming

We tested the Reno 16 with both Call of Duty: Mobile and BGMI.

Performance for gaming is decent for light users. AI HyperBoost ensures consistent frame rates for lengthy gaming periods, though it is unable to overcome the shortcomings of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset.

The longer you game on this phone, the more performance issues are likely to pop up, and it becomes quite obvious that the Reno 16 is not meant for serious gamers.

Gaming Verdict: Suitable for occasional gaming, though there are better options available for those who want to game.

Battery

Undoubtedly, one of the key aspects that stand out in the OPPO Reno 16 is the battery life.

This smartphone features a gigantic 6700mAh battery that provided an outstanding result of 23 hours 48 minutes in the PCMark Battery Test.

When used in real conditions, this device provides you with enough battery for at least one whole day even under such heavy workload as non-stop WhatsApp chatting, social media surfing, taking photos, streaming movies, and making calls.

To charge the battery, there is the 80W SUPERVOOC Fast Charging technology, and it took only 62 minutes to charge the device from 20% to 100%.

It should be noted that unlike many other rivals, OPPO provides you with the fast charger right in the retail box.

Battery Life Verdict: Excellent battery life along with fast charging.

Pros & Cons

Pros
  • Premium and eye-catching design

  • Excellent camera system with natural color science

  • Bright, vibrant AMOLED display

  • Long-lasting battery life

  • 80W fast charging included in the box

  • Compact and comfortable form factor

  • IP69K dust and water resistance

  • Excellent camera software and AI features

Cons
  • Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 feels underpowered for the price

  • Gaming performance is only average

  • ₹61,999 pricing is on the higher side

It is evident that the OPPO Reno 16 was created with the needs of those who care more about taking pictures, good design, convenience, and battery life than benchmark scores. The camera of this device takes amazing natural shots; the screen of it is perfect; the small size is something new; and the battery makes it easy to use all day.

But performance is the area where the phone cannot cope with the expectations because of the expensive cost. For ₹61,999, one can find other phones with better flagships that perform way better than the OPPO Reno 16.

In case your main concerns include the quality of the camera, design, small size, and good battery life, the OPPO Reno 16 is definitely a great pick. But if you are interested in playing games, the device won't satisfy your expectations.
