After almost twelve years of reign supreme in the mobile racing category, Real Racing 3 is finally on its way towards the finishing line. EA announced that one of the most iconic and realistic racing games ever created for smartphones is being shut down, thus bringing an age-old era to an end for countless gamers around the world. Although many enthusiasts had been waiting for this eventuality sooner or later because of the age of the game, the announcement still feels unreal even for a title that brought console-quality racing for smartphones.

EA has already started the process of shutting down, and this is happening much faster than anticipated. As of December 18, Real Racing 3 has been removed from the Google Play Store and the App Store, indicating that new users are not able to download the game anymore. But if you already have the game, you can always download it again from the app library or purchase history. In addition, to avoid users making any purchases in the last minute, all real-money transactions have been disabled.
For players who have been with the game for a long time, EA has introduced a very generous final update full of rewards. Every player who logs on will get free Gold, which amounts to 1,000 units. This will also come with two popular cars, which are the Audi S1 e-tron quattro and the launch model 2023 Rimac Nevera, which has been pegged as the fastest electric hypercar available. Players who own the cars will receive extra units of Gold instead.
However, it is advised that gamers do not hang around to enjoy these rewards for too long. This is because EA has announced that the Real Racing 3 servers will go down completely on the 19th of March, 2026. After the servers are turned off, it will no longer be possible to play the game. This is because the servers going down means that no online gaming functionalities will exist.

The Real Racing 3 game development journey started with Firemonkeys Studios, which was based within Australia, and that group was definitely one that pushed mobile hardware to its edge when the game first launched all the way back in 2013. However, due to layoffs within Firemonkeys back in 2023, the development of this game has been transferred to an EA studio within Hyderabad so that the game did not shut down, but eventually, the decision became inevitable.
Real Racing 3 could have been followed by a new installment. It was previously reported that Real Racing 4 was in development. There were rumors that this project was canceled in around 2019. It is a relief that this was canceled given that Real Racing 4 would have further emphasized that mobile is a preferred platform for games. For fans of mobile racing games, the shutdown of Real Racing 3 is simply the final lap for a game that broke so much ground in terms of realism, car licensing, and depth. With the final months to go, this is a great opportunity to dive back in and get your final rewards and take a few final laps before this gaming legend crosses the final finish line.
