Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro Could Join Lineup in 2027, Samsung May Shift to Four-Model Flagship Strategy

It looks like Samsung might be about to unveil something unprecedented for its Galaxy S flagship line of smartphones in years. As per initial rumors in the industry and renowned insider @UniverseIce, Samsung plans to unveil an entirely new Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro next year. This will result in an expanded four-model range from Samsung that will include the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27+, Galaxy S27 Pro, and Galaxy S27 Ultra.

Such an expansion could bring drastic changes in Samsung's flagship strategy.

Samsung has maintained a consistent three-model flagship lineup since the Galaxy S20 series launched in 2020. Each year, the company typically introduced:

  • A standard Galaxy S model

  • A larger Galaxy S Plus model

  • A premium Galaxy S Ultra model

It has proved to be a good choice by Samsung in differentiating the products. Over time, consumers have observed that there is a significant difference in both cost and specifications between the Plus and Ultra devices.

The upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro seems to be targeting the very same void.

Ice Universe says Samsung’s mobile arm is done deliberating on what approach should be taken towards its upcoming Pro device. The specifics of the new device like screen size, battery capacity, and camera sensors are not yet known, but one thing has become increasingly clear.

As per Samsung, the upcoming Pro smartphone will offer a premium flagship experience while borrowing key elements from the current Ultra device but without being the most superior model itself.

Early reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro may inherit several Ultra-level features. These could include:

  • Premium display technology

  • Advanced camera hardware

  • Higher-end build materials

  • Enhanced AI features

  • Privacy Display technology (similar to Galaxy S26 Ultra)

Another major difference will come through the omission of the S Pen from the device. Indeed, Samsung might choose to forgo providing support for the stylus in order to preserve the uniqueness of each of the two smartphones.

From an approach towards product positioning, such a decision can easily be explained. Indeed, the Galaxy S Ultra smartphone is becoming more and more like the continuation of the Galaxy Note line of devices because of its unique design featuring an integrated stylus.

Samsung has had previous experience trying to expand their flagships. In the past, they have tried out new products like the Galaxy S25 Edge, which paid attention to slimness and came out after the regular line-up of the S25 series.

There was a time when Samsung thought about replacing the Plus edition with the Edge edition in the Galaxy S26 range. But after getting feedback from the market, Samsung scrapped that idea and stuck with the Plus edition.

That shows how Samsung is becoming more thoughtful in their approach now. They aren’t replacing an existing product but adding another one with the Galaxy S27 Pro.

There are several reasons why Samsung might introduce a Galaxy S27 Pro:

1. Filling the Price Gap

Currently, the price difference between Galaxy S Plus and Ultra models is often significant. A Pro model would create a smoother pricing ladder.

2. More Flexible Feature Distribution

Samsung could spread premium features across multiple models instead of concentrating everything into the Ultra.

3. Competing More Directly with Apple

Apple already follows a four-model strategy, typically including:

  • Base model

  • Air or Plus model

  • Pro model

  • Pro Max model

Samsung has traditionally relied on the Ultra as its only top-tier flagship. Introducing a Pro model would allow Samsung to compete more directly with Apple’s premium tiering strategy.

If Samsung executes this strategy well, the Galaxy S27 Pro could become the ideal flagship choice for many buyers. It would likely appeal to users who want:

  • Premium design

  • High-end performance

  • Advanced cameras

  • Flagship display

But without paying Ultra-level prices or needing features like the S Pen.

This positioning could make the Pro model particularly attractive to power users who want flagship performance but don't necessarily need every top-tier feature.

While expanding the lineup offers more choice, it could also introduce new challenges.

More models often mean:

  • Confusing upgrade decisions

  • Overlapping pricing

  • Feature overlap between devices

  • Harder product positioning

Samsung would need to carefully differentiate each model to avoid confusing buyers. Pricing will also play a crucial role. If the Pro model is priced too close to the Ultra, buyers may still prefer the Ultra instead.

Since this information comes from early reports, details about the Galaxy S27 Pro remain limited. However, more leaks are expected in the coming months, including:

  • Display size details

  • Camera specifications

  • Processor information

  • Battery capacity

  • Design changes

  • Pricing expectations

Samsung typically launches its Galaxy S series in January or February, so if the Galaxy S27 Pro is indeed coming, we may start seeing more concrete leaks toward late 2026.

Rumored Samsung Galaxy S27 Pro appears to be a significant change in Samsung's flagship strategy. Introducing another premium class between Plus and Ultra models can increase Samsung's lineup flexibility and make it more diverse for various customer segments.

In case of proper implementation, Galaxy S27 Pro will be the ideal balance of price and high-end features.

But Samsung should take care of its price point, as well as the placement of features and devices in order to increase the quality of its lineup.

Until then, Galaxy S27 Pro is just a rumor; but if the information turns out to be true, Samsung's flagship lineup of 2027 will be quite unexpected.
