Samsung One UI 9 Beta Is Here for Galaxy S26

Samsung launches One UI 9 beta just days after rolling out One UI 8.5. Here's everything that's new the rollout schedule, key features, and what comes next.

Samsung One UI 9 Beta

Samsung has finally announced the One UI 9 beta availability for the Galaxy S26 lineup. This announcement was made soon after the company started rolling out the One UI 8.5 update for the Galaxy S25 lineup and the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The pace at which Samsung is rolling out updates is quite impressive. Samsung is working at a faster rate when compared to all its previous software rollouts.

One UI 9 is based on Android 17, Google's latest operating system for smartphones. Registration for this beta version will be available in select countries from now on. According to Samsung, the three primary pillars of One UI 9 include creative freedom, personalisation, and security.

What is Samsung One UI 9 Beta?

  • Built on Android 17, Google's latest OS

  • Available for Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra

  • Rolling out in India, South Korea, Germany, Poland, UK, and US

  • Access requires signing up through the Samsung Members app

  • Stable release expected alongside Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8 in July

But Samsung is yet to release any official screen shots regarding the new features. Nevertheless, this list will give you a comprehensive understanding of all that One UI 9 entails.

Upgraded First-Party Apps

Samsung Notes gets decorative tapes and new pen-style options. Contacts now links directly to Creative Studio for card customisation.

Revamped Quick Settings

Brightness, sound, and the media player are now independently adjustable. More size options give you granular layout control.

Accessibility Overhaul

Custom Mouse Key speed, a unified TalkBack combining Google and Samsung, and a Text Spotlight tool for larger floating text displays.

Security Threat Warnings

One UI 9 detects high-risk apps in real time. It blocks them automatically and recommends you uninstall them immediately.

Samsung Notes Gets Creative Tools

Aesthetic enhancements have been introduced to the Samsung Note-taking application. Users can now adorn their notes using various decorative tapes. There is also an addition of pen mode, providing a more realistic note-taking experience. While these enhancements may not be earth-shattering, they provide a more refined experience compared to other apps such as GoodNotes.

Quick Settings Panel Gets Smarter

The design of the quick settings section has once again been revamped. According to Samsung, the brightness level, sound, and media player can now be individually adjusted. In addition, there are also more choices when it comes to sizing. Thus, you can arrange the quick settings panel to suit your own usage habits on the phone.

A Meaningful Accessibility Upgrade

UI 9 does have some enhancements that make it convenient for those with special requirements when it comes to accessibility options. It's good to see that this particular version of TalkBack has managed to bring together the features from Google and Samsung, offering a single solution that was not available before and confused many users. Another handy function is Text Spotlight, which highlights the selected text in a floating window.

Real-Time Security Threat Detection

This is actually useful to end-users. With the One UI 9 skin, when a risky application is detected on your device, not only will you be notified, but the application will be automatically blocked from launching and the user will be advised to uninstall the software. This kind of security action by an Android skin is rare among other skins, and this could really help many users.

"Samsung is running alongside Google now not just catching up."

One UI 9 Rollout

Unlike previous One UI major beta releases, this One UI 9 beta is available in several regions from day one. This is a significant difference from previous versions of One UI. Previously, the beta was available in either Korea or the US first. But now Samsung has broadened its scope from the beginning.

The beta will be available for Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra devices. If you have any of these devices, you can sign up for this beta via the Samsung Members application.

A few weeks after July

One UI 9 Stable will be rolled out first to Samsung’s latest foldable phones, namely the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, which reportedly have an estimated release month of July. The Galaxy S26 lineup will follow suit shortly after receiving their stable updates.

Android 17 Features May Also Be Coming

The stable One UI 9 can incorporate native Android 17 features revealed by Google recently. Most noteworthy among these is the Gemini Intelligence, an artificial intelligence assistant from Google that controls your device through voice commands. You can consider it to be an advanced version of Google Assistant that can perform actions within applications.

It is not clear whether all the Android 17 features will be integrated into the stable One UI 9 update or not. However, considering that the former is based on the latter, it is highly probable that the majority will be included.

Why This Matters

This quick turnaround gives a lot away about Samsung's direction. One UI 8.5 was released only just days back, yet here comes the beta of One UI 9. This is a development which was once the preserve of Google Pixel handsets alone.

It does indicate that the owners of the Galaxy S26 will have Android 17 features sooner than those of any other Android smartphone. Samsung may be trying to outdo Google at this stage.

There are several reasons why this could be good news for the consumers. First, they'll get quicker access to latest AI technology on their handsets. Second, there'll be more longevity on flagship products. Third, their gadgets will be more secure because they'll get their patches quicker.

How to Join the One UI 9 Beta

To enroll into the program, all you need to do is launch the Samsung Members app on your Galaxy S26/S26 Plus/S26 Ultra. Find the banner regarding the One UI 9 beta enrollment and tap to proceed. If you are from one of the countries where beta testing is available, such as India, Korea, Germany, Poland, UK, and the USA, then your application will be considered rather quickly.

Please note that it is still a beta version, and it comes with some bugs. So, it would be wise not to enroll your work smartphone into the beta testing program if you have not done it before. But if you want to try out the system and its functions ahead of others, go for it.
