Samsung, the South Korean technology giant, has not yet launched its much-hyped XR headset, but new reports suggest that the company is already looking towards its next major wearable innovation its first-ever smart glasses, which are projected to land in 2026. The product is said to have greater AI integration and may be the start of Samsung's long-term vision to take over the soon-to-emerge smart glasses market.
Samsung has officially announced that it will release its first XR headset, which goes by the codename Project Moohan, by the end of this year. Although an exact date is still a closely guarded secret, the news has generated enough buzz among tech circles already. This XR headset marks Samsung's official foray into the extended reality segment, one in which Apple and Meta have already made their moves.
But even before this device goes on sale, Samsung is said to be developing another revolutionary product smart glasses with no screen.
As per a report published by trusted tipster Jukanlosreve, referencing South Korean publication SEDaily, Samsung is working on display-less smart glasses for an early 2026 release. These glasses will differ from conventional AR or VR headsets in that they will concentrate on AI-based features instead of visual overlays.
The glasses are expected to come equipped with:
Cameras for capturing photos and videos
Microphones for voice commands and calls
Speakers for audio output
These features reflect some of the capabilities of Meta's AI Glasses, which allow users to capture pictures, record videos, respond to questions through an AI assistant, and provide smooth integration with Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
Interestingly enough, the report also indicates that Samsung is planning on developing this line of smart glasses independent of the partnership with Google. This development indicates that the device could employ Samsung's own proprietary software instead of using Google's Android platform. This kind of strategy could allow Samsung to take a more solid, distinct position in the smart glasses market.
Industry observers think Samsung views smart glasses as the natural evolution of smartphones over the next few years. With the addition of AI and always-on connectivity, these glasses might be an incessant companion, providing hands-free functionality in transit.
On the competitive side, Meta is already working on its next-generation smart glasses, code-named Orion, that will be equipped with an AR display. This provides Meta with a head start in visual interaction features. Samsung's first iteration, by contrast, will forego a display but might add one in subsequent iterations.
This incremental approach might enable Samsung to hone its AI-based features before introducing more sophisticated visual technologies.
Until now, Samsung has issued no formal announcement regarding the production of its smart glasses. The implication is that even though the rumors are genuine, they are speculation until the company releases an announcement. Nevertheless, assuming the reports hold water, Samsung may be laying the groundwork for a huge wearable revolution in the coming years.
