Samsung is not idle in 2025. Following the new design of the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the slim launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge, the technology giant is preparing to introduce yet another huge innovation a tri-fold smartphone. It is a surprise addition to the rumored line of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it may revolutionize the future of foldables entirely.
As discussed in our previous blog, Everything to Expect at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked July 2025, we gave a hint to this mystery tri-fold device briefly. Now, here comes the complete picture of what's to be expected.
Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7, set to release in the near future, already looks to bring some substantive improvements to the book-style foldable segment. But what's generating more buzz is Samsung's rumored tri-fold foldable smartphone, scheduled to launch later in 2025. Tipster Yogesh Brar reports that the innovative device will be launched in Q3 2025. This new timeline goes against previous reports, which had suggested a much later release, and suggests that Samsung is pushing development forward in order to remain ahead of the foldables competition.
Unlike current foldable smartphones that feature a single hinge and open like a book, the tri-fold device will reportedly feature two hinges, possibly opening out into a full-sized tablet. If leaks and Samsung's patents are to be believed, this new model could follow the Huawei Mate X Ultimate concept but with Samsung’s signature refinements. Some patents even hint at a configuration with three hinges and four connected panels, pushing the boundaries of smartphone design.
This design allows for a more in-depth screen experience, turning a smartphone into an actual tablet with greater surface area than what is provided by current foldables. Rather than merely doubling width on the screen, this design seeks to triple display real estate in a portable and small package.
The tri-fold phone won't appeal to all. The price is said to be anything between $3,000 (around ₹2,56,200) and $3,500 (around ₹2,98,900). At such a premium price point, Samsung seems to be eyeing a niche high-end market. To make the exclusivity complete, the phone is said to go into limited production and controlled distribution perhaps only in South Korea and China.
This conservative move contrasts sharply with Samsung's earlier foldable releases, which were criticized for fragility and screen problems. Heeding those lessons, Samsung appears bent on reducing risks and piloting the tri-fold in markets that are already familiar with cutting-edge, dainty devices.
Samsung's limited launch approach is telling. The initial Galaxy Fold received a lot of flak for screen guard malfunctions, hinge problems, and breakability. This time around, the company is not leaving anything to chance. By releasing the tri-fold exclusively in markets such as South Korea and China markets with cutting-edge user bases and supporting infrastructure Samsung hopes to accumulate controlled feedback before the tri-fold is made available worldwide.
The tri-fold will probably be seen more as a tech demonstration than a mass-market device, at least until now.
Whether or not this tri-fold is a commercial hit, one thing is certain: Samsung is all-in on foldable innovation in 2025. The tri-fold form factor, if done well, has the potential to change the way we interact with smartphones, providing laptop-esque multitasking in a phone-sized device. From work to play, this sci-fi configuration guarantees to unlock new horizons.
While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be for the masses of foldable buyers, the tri-fold phone is obviously a next-generation quantum leap and Samsung clearly has a good sense of its promise, and pitfalls.
Samsung's tri-fold smartphone may be one of the most highly anticipated tech debuts of 2025 even if only a privileged few get to experience it. As the Q3 2025 release window comes into focus, everyone is waiting for Samsung to make this ambitious endeavor work.
