The most affordable member of Xiaomi's 2025 flagship family punches well above its price tag with a 5x optical zoom Leica camera, a massive 6,500mAh battery, and Android 16 out of the box.

One such unique excitement is experienced whenever a brand introduces its best technology into a product downstream, meaning that the premium technologies become available for affordable phones. Xiaomi, a manufacturer of mobile phones and electronics, has managed to do the same by releasing the Xiaomi 17T; an innovation which turns out even more exciting than expected.

Xiaomi has designed three types of 2025 flagships, one of which is called Xiaomi 17T. This model is placed between the standard Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. However, the real novelty of this release does not lie in the phone itself but the fact that this is the first time Xiaomi brings a 'T' version of the flagships to the Indian market. This is a deliberate choice since Xiaomi aims at the ₹65,000 segment.
Xiaomi 17T Pricing and Availability
Let's get the numbers out of the way first, because they matter enormously here.
In colors Black, Blue, and Violet, the 17T will be launched starting June 10th in India through Amazon India, mi.com, and Xiaomi offline retail channels. However, there are some pretty decent discounts and deals when the phone is launched – a direct bank discount of ₹5,000, cashback of up to ₹5,000, and EMI at no cost. If all of this gets added, then the price becomes closer to ₹50,000, which is a good deal.
However, one color that is missing and is disappointing for fans – the Opal White model that was launched in Europe earlier this week – isn't available in India.
Design and Display
As with its siblings, Xiaomi 17T looks like it did not get left behind when it came to the design department. It carries with it the same aesthetic design cues as the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra models. But unlike either model, it is slimmer than the former while being bulkier than the latter, standing at 157mm x 75.2mm x 8.17mm and weighing 200 grams exactly.
The screen of Xiaomi 17T is a full AMOLED display panel measuring 6.59-inches and sporting a 1.5K resolution (2756 x 1268 pixels), coupled with a 120 Hz refresh rate and 12-bit colour depth. These specs make for an excellent paper profile, but what really seals the deal for this display is the list of additional features it boasts of. From having DCI-P3 gamut, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certifications down to high-frequency PWM dimming at 3,840Hz and DC dimming for people who experience screen flickers – this display has it all.
Its peak brightness of 3,500 nits makes it well-suited for the sunny conditions found in India. Coupled with its Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and TÜV Rheinland eye-strain certifications, this display can go head-to-head against smartphones costing much more.
Performance
MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra powers the Redmi Note 17T, and this is a very powerful SoC made by MediaTek using the 4nm manufacturing process. It is supposed to be positioned by MediaTek as a mid-to-upper end processor that has an all-big-core CPU architecture, which is quite unusual since most companies have big-little processor designs. Mali-G720 MC8 provides good graphics performance while NPU 880 is designed to perform AI tasks.
The combination of up to 9,600Mbps of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage ensures that your device will launch applications quickly, and you won't notice any lags when playing modern games or transferring large files between devices. While the Redmi Note 17T isn't on the same level as Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Elite Edition, it should suffice in everyday tasks and most games for its price category.
However, there is another important thing about the performance of the Redmi Note 17T besides its hardware, and this is its operating system. Namely, it is Android 16 with Xiaomi's own HyperOS 3. This is important as relatively few smartphones come with Android 16 at their release at this price point. Furthermore, the device also has HyperAI and Google Gemini available.
Camera System
This is the point where Xiaomi 17T gets the best headlines for itself. It comes equipped with the Leica tuning on the triple rear camera set-up – something that made the Xiaomi 17 Ultra what it is worth ₹1,00,000+. Getting that level of optical tuning on a phone at ₹60,000+ is nothing less than remarkable.
First things first, there’s a 50 MP camera sensor (Light Fusion 800) with Optical Image Stabilization. There’s a 12MP ultra-wide angle lens capturing 120 degrees wide. But what makes the whole thing impressive is that third lens, a 50MP periscope zoom camera with 5x optical zoom and OIS. That’s the same optical zoom capacity that was seen on the Xiaomi 17 Ultra – a phone that was priced close to double.
"The periscope telephoto reaches up to 120x digital zoom a spec that sounds like marketing until you actually use it for moon shots or stadium photography."
The device captures 4K HDR10+ videos with a framerate of up to 60fps through the cameras, while the 32MP front shooter allows users to experience this high level of image capture in self-shots and video calls, which would certainly please many content creators and bloggers out there. It remains to be seen how close the Leica camera calibration gets in terms of tone mapping and color science compared to its older sibling, but on paper, Xiaomi seems to offer one of the best sets of cameras in this category.
The direct competitor for this smartphone in terms of hardware configuration will be the Vivo X200T, featuring an equally strong telephoto camera configuration. This competition between the two brands can only serve customers, delivering them top-notch photography capabilities at a very affordable price point.
Battery Life
The battery of the Xiaomi 15T was rated at 5,500 mAh, respectable, but by no means exceptional. The 17T model steps this up to 6,500mAh through the use of silicon-carbon cell batteries that are denser and thinner than ordinary lithium-ion models of the same rating. In practice, this translates to a full day's worth of use, with up to 1.5 to 2 days of usage being possible depending on circumstances.
The 67W HyperCharge will take care of that generous cell in around 50-55 minutes, going by previous experience. Additionally, there is the ability to use USB-C Power Delivery, allowing for up to 50W charging. Reverse charging will be able to provide 22.5W power, enough to juice earbuds and other accessories via USB-C connectivity. What does not exist, perhaps unfortunately, is wireless charging capability.
Connectivity and Extra Features
The list of connectivity options is exhaustive with 5G with dual SIM capability, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC for making contactless payments, and even an IR blaster which is actually a handy feature that has been overlooked by quite a few manufacturers. There are stereo speakers equipped with Dolby Atmos Certification.
This market sub-segment of India in 2026 is quite competitive. Here, the OnePlus 13R, the Samsung Galaxy A56, the iQOO 13 lite, and, finally, the Vivo X200T fight for the same user – the one who looks for flagship-class performance and photographic capabilities but can't go above six figures.
In this case, the Xiaomi 17T wins by a nose because of the following reasons. First, it comes with one of the best Leica periscope camera systems among all budget phones available out there in 2026. Second, the inclusion of the 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery resolves the only issue with other brands' devices. Third, it's got Android 16 + HyperOS 3 combo that makes the device more interesting from the standpoint of longevity. Lastly, the IP68 rating doesn't make you think of the phone as of something that should be avoided.
However, there are still certain aspects of Xiaomi 17T that might put off some people. For instance, the fact that it's got a rather powerful but outdated Dimensity 8500 Ultra. Moreover, the lack of wireless charging is another thing to consider before choosing a device.
Xiaomi 17T is a carefully thought out device that actually succeeds in fulfilling its primary promise, which was making premium-grade camera tech, especially that unique Leica 5x periscope telephoto, available at an affordable price point. When you take into consideration all factors for customers seeking flexibility in photography, a dependable battery, as well as up-to-date software, not paying more than ₹1 lakh, there is hardly any better option than the Xiaomi 17T launched in India in 2026.
