Xiaomi 18 Pro Officially Teased With a Bigger Rear Display and AI Focus
Xiaomi has officially teased the Xiaomi 18 Pro series with a rear display built into its Leica camera module. The new teaser hints that the secondary screen could gain AI-powered features, building on the functionality introduced with the Xiaomi 17 Pro series.
Xiaomi will not abandon its unique rear display experiments. As announced by the company, Xiaomi 18 Pro Series will be presented in China in the coming month, and also, Xiaomi has hinted at one of the key features of this model the secondary display embedded in the back camera system. In the teaser, the phrase "Generating" can be seen on the rear display, and that indicates the possible intention of Xiaomi to move to new levels with its rear display and go beyond basic wallpapers and clocks.
In addition, after presenting the Xiaomi 17 Pro Series, equipped with an advanced rear display, which became the most discussed design feature in the latest flagships from Xiaomi, the company did not plan to leave this feature only for the current generation of smartphones and intends to perfect it for the new Xiaomi 18 Pro. The new teaser from Xiaomi makes it clear that the new Xiaomi 18 Pro phone will come with the rear display located inside the horizontal Leica triple-camera module. As you can see, the concept itself is the same as for the previous model, though there are some rumors about some possible changes that could be made. These changes could include thinner bezels of the rear screen, the new front camera location, and the physical button on the frame.

Samsung, on the other hand, reportedly developed its own version of secondary screen technology for privacy purposes, meaning that phone makers are searching for ways of using it.
The secondary screen idea is even making its way into the mid-range sector. Infinix tried out its Active Matrix Display in phones like the Hot 70 Pro, while manufacturers in India have also explored the concept. Lava offered its own secondary screen on the Blaze Duo 3 before experimenting with a new implementation on the Virat Curve.
The most challenging part for Xiaomi will be whether the consumers will use the rear display after the excitement fades away. The Xiaomi 17 Pro showed that rear displays could be quite useful compared to the short-lived secondary screen concept used by the Mi 11 Ultra. Yet, it will all depend on how well it integrates with the apps and provides practical features to users.
Xiaomi 18 Pro Launch Timeline and India Availability
Currently, it is only China that will see the device’s release. The company will reveal more about the smartphone closer to the event. It is still unknown what the phone’s full specs, price, and all the rear display functions will be.
Also, there is no word on whether the smartphone will ever see the light of day in India. In particular, it is crucial for the Indian customers since Xiaomi didn’t offer the Xiaomi 17 Pro/Max in India. Hence, there is nothing to prove that the Xiaomi 18 Pro will be released in India.
For now, the Xiaomi 18 Pro is an interesting flagship to keep an eye on. However, if Xiaomi manages to marry the rear display with useful AI and app capabilities, the phone may become unique even in the highly competitive flagship market.
