Amazon Alexa+ Launches in India With Generative AI and Hindi Support

Amazon Alexa+ is now available in India via Early Access program, offering generative AI, conversational AI, support for Hindi and Hinglish languages, smart home capabilities, and more to Alexa users of compatible Echo devices and Alexa app.

Alexa+ has been released by Amazon in India, where the generative AI-assistant will be available on compatible Echo speakers, Fire TV devices and the Alexa mobile app. In Alexa+, there is a dramatic change from the regular Alexa version as the company intends to give users a conversational and multi-task AI assistant that goes beyond responding to single voice commands.

Alexa+ will be available in the Early Access version in India starting from September 16. The Alexa+ will be provided to customers for free during this period. Upon launch, Alexa+ will be able to work in English, Hindi, and Hinglish, while other Indian languages are expected in the future releases. With this release, Indians can enjoy the new version of Alexa AI Assistant without any need for new devices.

Alexa+ Brings More Natural Conversations

One of the most significant features of Alexa+ is that one doesn't have to use the wake word “Alexa” before every command when having an ongoing dialogue with the assistant. It is possible to use context throughout several questions and commands that are made and thus make the interaction more conversational in nature.

Alexa+ was created to be compatible with Indian communication style. Amazon claims that the assistant can understand Indian phrases and measures, family relations, and references to Bollywood, cricket and festivals. It is possible to change languages from English to Hindi or Hinglish and keep the context of the conversation alive.

Another thing that Alexa+ can do is combine several actions in one command. For example, one can control several smart home appliances at the same time instead of controlling them separately. Additionally, one can create some routines by using natural language. Amazon officially supports such brands as Atomberg, Qubo, Dreame, and Wipro.

Alexa+ Expands Into Shopping and Everyday Services

Amazon is also not stopping at integrating Alexa+ only as an assistant for controlling a smart home. This assistant can assist the user with creating a shopping list, comparing products, summarizing reviews, and tracking delivery.

Integrations with various services like EazyDiner, Swiggy, District by Zomato, MakeMyTrip, Home Triangle, and TripAdvisor are already being prepared. It is also believed that Amazon Now will eventually be able to offer its users the ability to order grocery and other daily products by voice command.

In that way, Amazon is putting Alexa+ among the new-generation AI assistants like Gemini and Siri AI, which are becoming more context-aware and capable of performing complex tasks. Nevertheless, Alexa+ has its distinctive features as it is going to be integrated with Echo, Fire TV, and other compatible smart home devices.

Alexa+ Pricing in India

At present, Alexa+ is free for eligible users who are part of the Early Access program. Once the Early Access phase ends, the users with Amazon Prime plans will get Alexa+ without any extra payment.

Those using the Prime Lite plan, Prime Shopping edition, and the non-Prime plans will require a valid Prime plan or an independent subscription of Alexa+, which costs ₹2,000 per month as mentioned on Amazon.

This works for eligible devices that include Echo devices, Fire TV devices, and the Alexa app. The future updates from Amazon may add support for the web browser as well.

New Alexa+ Devices Coming to India

In addition to the software experience, Amazon will be rolling out dedicated hardware for Alexa+. These include the Echo Show 8, Echo Show 11, Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio.

All of these new devices will come with increased processing power, memory, and sensors to cater to the new requirements of the improved AI. But existing owners of Echo and Fire TV products do not necessarily have to purchase new devices for Alexa+ since the new AI will be available for compatible older models as well.

As per the Early Access period of Alexa+, those who are already using the product can use the new AI without buying any new device while those planning to get a new Echo product must first verify that their old hardware supports the same before upgrading.

With Alexa+, Amazon is making Alexa a conversational AI rather than a simple voice command system. With its integration of generative AI, Indian languages, smart home controls, and the increasing Amazon ecosystem, Alexa could become much more helpful to people in their daily lives in India.
