WhatsApp Chats Recover

There are certain mistakes in life that teach us harsh lessons, and losing all my WhatsApp chats was one such experience. It felt as though a part of my life had been erased with just a single click. It wasn't merely a loss of data; rather, a piece of my life had vanished overnight. Although it began as a moment of panic which later turned into regret it eventually led to the realization that most people don't think about data backups until they have actually lost their data. However, what followed was a revelation that completely transformed my life. In this blog, we will explore how I recovered my WhatsApp chats, as well as discover measures to avoid this nightmare altogether.

Passkeys offer a secure method for protecting chat backups. Unlike traditional methods, I do not need to memorize a lengthy password or a 64-digit encryption key, as access can be easily gained using a fingerprint or facial recognition. This approach ensures that the backup remains both private and secure.

First, let's understand what a Passkey is. A Passkey is an authentication tool that verifies your identity without the need for a password. It is stored within secure applications such as Google Password Manager. It is important to note that just anyone cannot access your backup; only you can access your encrypted backup.

Incidentally, there are certain requirements for Passkeys: specifically, the device must be running Android 9 or a higher version, Google Mobile Services must be version 241217000 or higher, and a screen lock must be enabled for which you can use a password, PIN, or pattern.

Now, let's find out how I enabled Passkeys.

  1. Open your phone's Settings.

  2. Go to the Chats section.

  3. Tap on Chat Backup.

  4. Select End-to-end Encrypted Backup.

  5. Tap on Turn On.

  6. Set a Passkey by following the provided instructions.

  7. Optionally, you can also choose to use a Password or a 64-digit key.

Once enabled, your backup becomes secure in the cloud and can be accessed only using a Passkey.

Now, to switch from a password or key to a passkey, first turn off end-to-end encryption, then enable it again and this time, select Passkey.

And if either you or I ever need to disable the Encrypted Backup, I will follow these steps:

  1. Go to Chats → Chat Backup

  2. Tap on End-to-end Encrypted Backup

  3. Select Turn Off and confirm

However, before enabling Passkeys, there are a few points to keep in mind: for instance, if the Passkey, password, or encryption key is lost, the backup cannot be restored; WhatsApp cannot recover or reset these credentials; and you must ensure you check the device requirements before enabling the feature.

In conclusion, I would simply like to say that your WhatsApp chats are a part of your memories, and by using a Passkey, you can easily keep them secure. It is an easy, fast, and more secure method.
